Four mornings with no little auk yet; despite them being seen to the north and south of the beach. A velvet scoter close in this morning.

Dungeness: A pale bird dropped into a Bramble beside me at the red and white gates, then morphed into a super leucistic Kestrel and alighted on a lamp post in the power station, only to be mobbed by a Magpie then have a close shave with an encounter with a Peregrine.

Hollesley, Suffolk, 22/10/2025
A 1st calendar year #bird; the first for Suffolk, and my sixth shrike species for the year

If the barnacles were in Suffolk, most likely the local feral flock. They are around all year.

Thanks.

Just seen pictures from the site showing “birders” standing up against its favoured bush where it was showing. Then claiming it is elusive!

Turkestan shrike

My out for three shrikes week just went to four, when this Turkestan / red-tailed shrike was found, a short walk from Minsmere, where I was birding today.

Hi. Unfortunately not by me. It showed well in bare branches in the canopy of the copse about 10ft from me. But as I reached for the camera it flew. It was reported later in the afternoon by the pool, so others may have some. 🤞

No sign of the two yellow-browed warblers, after a morning sea watch, but good to find a pied flycatcher in the same area.

We spent the rest of our final morning on Shetland y’day checking spots up the west side of Mainland, including the burn of Geosetter. Just a Blackcap seen on the way up, but coming back down this stunning Wood Warbler popped out!
