The next Visions speaker series event is approaching!

On Oct 17 I'll be talking with @christinejberry.bsky.social about her book project: 'Ours: Reclaiming Ownership of What Matters'

Join us for a conversation about what a democratic economy might mean & how we might go about building it together
May be of interest @abundance-org.bsky.social @georgemonbiot.bsky.social @guyshrubsole.bsky.social - am interested in how stories like this illuminate the folly of the govt's planning reforms, and how we can link these local struggles to the national picture. Would love to discuss some time!
See my profile pic? That's me in beautiful Ryebank Fields, an amazing rewilded local green space which @manmetuni.bsky.social want to turn into luxury flats. The community has an alternative plan to retain it as a woodland and meadow - please share and register support: ryebankfieldscommunity.co.uk
Ooh, I'd love to take a look at this - alienation is something I (and my hubby @markstaylor.uk) have been pondering on a lot lately... Hope you are doing well x
More and more, I feel all we can do in the face of these dangers is to double down on our humanness, our capacity for connection, our ability to support one another. As @paulhebden.bsky.social said to me recently - "at some point the penny will drop and we'll realise all we have is each other."
In other news, racists are peddling poisonous lies about migrants, human contact is being designed out of public services and inequality is rewiring our kids' brains - but don't worry, growth will solve all that too... somehow...
Helpful summary from @theguardian.com of the nonsense that is Labour's strategy. Prices will keep going up, people are losing their jobs, but it's okay because some numbers you don't care about went up slightly faster than we thought.
May be of interest to the @cmmonwealth.bsky.social gang and other like minded souls... @martinoneill.bsky.social, @bethstratford.bsky.social, no doubt others too numerous to tag... 🤓💜🌈
Lovely call this morning with @calebalthorpe.bsky.social planning this workshop for @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social. Looking forward to a great conversation about what democratic ownership is, why we need it and how we build it. All welcome! visions-for-the-future.sites.uu.nl/events/speak...
It seems like as of tomorrow it could well be considered illegal for me to share this blog (written a year ago), which is pretty wild. Maybe give it a read it now while you still can... www.christineberry.net/2024/05/on-d...

With Palestine Action due to be proscribed next week, now seems like a good time to share this blog I wrote last year. I hadn't grasped the full impact of proscription when I wrote it, but I think the basic message still stands. www.christineberry.net/2024/05/on-d...

Solidarity is survival. Embroidery by @christinejberry.bsky.social who has only recently taken up embroidery, since becoming ill with Long Covid. Isn’t this design of hers fabulous?

Science break.
This kayaker gets approached by an otter every time he visits a lake. The otter was orphaned after the mother was in an accident, and the man helped it throughout it's rehabilitation process to later release it back into the wild. Volume up.🔊
Just been catching up on the details of the planning bill via @georgemonbiot.bsky.social's typically excellent and informative column - and I have to say, I take absolutely no pleasure at all in how right this turned out to be. www.christineberry.net/2024/09/labo...

Damning reflection on the UK government's inhumane cuts to disability benefits - and a wider thought on how people who think they are good, can allow themselves to do great harm to others...
I wrote a thing about the unreality of the debate on disability benefits, where it comes from and how it affects us. It cost a few spoons to do it, but I think it would have cost more not to. Have a read if you're interested: www.christineberry.net/2025/03/the-...

Exactly. This is why I never applied for PIP when I got long covid - I knew the process itself would make me sicker, and by the time I felt well enough to face it, I also felt virtually certain they would deem me no longer sick enough to deserve support. The whole thing is a travesty.

100 years ago, this rewilded urban greenfield space was claypits with only an ancient ditch, a row of magnificent Black Poplars, and a hedgerow. Please join our campaign and object to #MMU plans to build on this special beloved place #RewildingTogether www.saveryebankfields.co.uk/object-now/

Why do all these people have depression we ask as we create systems designed to make their lives as insecure as possible.

Spot on from @patmillsuk.bsky.social 👏 - as a disabled person it's genuinely really cheering to have this solidarity at a time when the rhetoric coming from other quarters feels so draining and dispiriting. Thanks friends.
We’re out and about across the UK today to tell MPs and constituents that our country is missing out on £460m a week without a wealth tax.
Rachel Reeves doesn’t need to make cuts, instead she can tax the richest people like us to build a better Britain.
