Snap reached an agreement on Tuesday to settle a tech addiction lawsuit. The case is the first such lawsuit of several that are set to go to trial this year against Meta, Snap, TikTok and YouTube.

The settlement means Snap will avoid a trial where plaintiffs had planned to argue that social media platforms are inherently defective and subject to personal injury liability.

I agree. Most people of any influence in the U.S. are either too drunk on normalcy juice or too craven to speak bluntly about what we face. Hearing what the rest of the world honestly thinks of us can only do us good.
I have one request for everyone outside the United States. Stop being polite to us Americans. Tell us what you really think.

You should maybe look at this piece bc it has my thoughts on a hypocritical (possibly theocratic?) FTC commissioner named Mark Meader.

But you should definitely look at it bc I convinced @mmasnick.bsky.social to put a picture (!) on top of a Techdirt article.

But the marketing! The marketing of this stuff was perfectly successful.

Well done, everyone.

Take this with my usual dirty liberal hippie law professor disclaimer,

But just so we're clear: The DOJ is appealing an order that tells DHS and ICE to stop violating our First Amendment rights?

Well, that's a fairly solid of a metric for where we are with things in the Twin Cities these days.

We dont have to wait for the midterms.

This is basically days that end in Y.
and yet during midterms we'll be bombarded with Axios, Semafor, Politico, and NYT deep dives that either downplay or ignore that the U.S. political right is a bunch of lying extremist sociopaths completely off the fucking rails

There's a reddit thread going to identify the Timberwolves Hat ICE guy.

He's in several videos escalating situations, and even was involved in an incident where a member of city council was assaulted for the crime of standing on a sidewalk in his district.
According to DHS, about 3,000 ICE and federal agents are operating in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. THREE THOUSAND! The entire Minneapolis Police Department only has about 580 officers. This is outrageous and unnecessary.

Our tax dollars are funding this abuse, so it’s happening in our name.
