I didn’t love the long “one take, no edits” episodes. Editing can make something good even better. But the story and the performances will knock you on your ass. Powerful stuff. #adolescence #Netflix #owencooper
Such a great documentary. Urban history and nostalgia and Mel Brooks all wrapped up in one. Brooks is a national treasure. #theautomat #hornandhardart #melbrooks
Read my first Mary Roach book — this one about the realities of life in zero gravity. Fascinating. #maryroach #packingformars #spacetravel #books #booksiread
Every year, I pick up one or two children’s lit classics — books I wish I had read as a kid. I just finished 1958’s “The Witch of Blackbird Pond.” I’ve included the cover of the edition I read, the original cover, and a gothic romance version clearly meant to appeal to women readers in the 1970s.
Finished "Lost Man's Lane" today. Sort of a mixture of Stephen King's "The Outsider" and Stephen King's "Stand By Me/The Body." #books #stephenking #lostmanslane
One of my favorite documentaries ever. It will blow your mind. #threeidenticalstrangers
It was really fun. I think you’d like it.
This was a fun read. “The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared.” If you liked the movie “Forrest Gump” and how the mild-mannered Gump innocently turned up at pivotal moments in world history, then you’ll like this book. #swedishlit #sweden #jonasjonasson #100yearoldman
Trying to explore the deeper nooks and crannies of composer John Williams career, I watched the awful 1958 movie “Daddy-O” about street racing dope dealers. It was Williams’ first film score. Also loved seeing the great Bobby Banas in it. #johnwilliams #daddyo #streetracing #hotrods #bobbybanas
Re-watched one of my favorite movies last night. “Empire of the Sun.” The incredible music by John Williams elevates it to a whole other level. #empireofthesun #johnwilliams #spielberg #stevenspielberg #christianbale #WW2
Great memoir of a Minnesota man who moves his family to a small village in southern France. Lots of details about French life, French food, and especially wine and wine-making. And more emotional than I expected as they develop deep friendships with the locals. #aseasonforthat #booksilove #france
S3 premiere. So damn good. The creepy factor is off the charts. #thewhitelotus #max #hbo #carriecoons
Just watched 2011’s “War Horse.” Classic Steven Spielberg direction. Classic John Williams score. #spielberg #johnwilliams #warhorse
Wow, what a ride. Sci fi short stories that will challenge your view of the world — including the one that inspired the movie “Arrival.” It will help if you have a knowledge of history, religions, linguistics, and lots of science. I was barely hanging on during some parts. #tedchiang #scifi #arrival
Love the music by composer John Williams in this movie which I saw for the first time tonight. “Sayuri’s Theme” is haunting. #memoirsofageisha #geisha #johnwilliams #moviemusic
Watched "Catch Me if You Can" last night. My very favorite of the many John Williams' movie scores. So furtive and cat-and-mouse. #stevenspielberg #spielberg #johnwilliams #catchmeifyoucan #leonardodicaprio #moviescores
Watched another movie scored by the great John Williams. 1966’s “How to Steal a Million.” #johnwilliams #audreyhepburn #peterotoole #1960smovies
Explores some of the more ridiculous comic book superheroes over the past 80+ years. Fun little tome with some interesting pop culture history. #comicbooks #comics #superheroes #quirkbooks
Surely one of the most random books I’ve read. Published in 1945. Made into a movie in 1947 and a sitcom in 1969. I’ve seen the entire run of the TV show so wanted to check out the original source material. #ghostandmrsmuir #1940sbooks #randomreads
