one student said something about how keyboard class makes them feel good, like “wow my hands/body can make this great sound?”
and sometimes the joy of discovery eludes me in my own practice (if I get to practice). today’s organ session gave me that joy I felt when I was a kid learning pf.

...so we spent our trip back from grocery shopping figuring out if the "key change" in Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" would be considered a mode change (major to minor) or modulation (it lasts for a while! no return to the original major key!)

i’d always say nice things about Toer’s Buru tetralogy but Tohari’s Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk trilogy really shaped my worldview, politics, and ethics.
