I track campaign finance in Texas, connecting the “what” to the “why” with my wife, @mentack.bsky.social Started http://seeitnameitfightit.com. Lots of talk about numbers, campaign finance, a spotlight on Christian nationalism, and some punk rock.

Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed in her own home by a Fort Worth police officer on October 12, 2019.

On October 11, 2025, the annual Pull Up For Tay parade was held, walking through Atatiana’s neighborhood. As Patrice Jones tells us “Let’s get us some real change”

On 9/30, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said “Patrice, I still have your casket”. On the 10/6 episode of the 817 Podcast, Patrice Jones laid out what it was about and why it was so 😱

🔥 “White women tears have ended civilizations” 🔥

When will the Fort Worth Mayor apologize?

Full disclosure: Mendi and I gave Taylor $200 (above his average) and have been block walking for him the past week and a half.

If we want people powered to win, it has to have people powering it. People like you and me.

Two candidates in the Texas Senate District 9 race are backed by billionaires. (Huffman and Wambsganss)
One is backed by real people like you and me. (Rehmet)

Billionaires spend to buy the things they want, that benefit them, which includes politicians. They don’t care about us.

Whoa. 30 Day Before campaign finance report in the TX SD 9 race is 👀

John Huffman:

$500k (87%) is from Texas Sands (Miriam Adelson)

In Israel, families get monthly child allowances and a birth grant. Healthcare is universal, and college is subsidized.

And yet America is sending Israel $billions to help fund a genocide, while people here go bankrupt over healthcare costs and can’t afford kids or college.

Everyone who said “it’s just abt the economy”, played ball with Republicans trying to find “common ground”, didn’t draw a deep line in the sand, and didn’t recognize the hard-line Christian nationalism…have f’d the country. Project 2025 will demolish us.

When citizens show up to Fort Worth City Council and tell Council they are taking away our opportunities to raise our voice, it’s happening, year after year.
2021 - 29 chances for Public Comment (Mattie was elected in May 2021)
2022 - 21
2023 - 17
2024 - 16
2025 - 15
2026 - 10

New piece from @mentack.bsky.social, Trading Away Rights.

“Every time we trade away rights for some people in order to placate a bully, we train the bully to come back for more. The bully will ALWAYS come back for more.”

It’s time to stop trading away rights and digging in on our shared values.

Don’t forget about the Pride Kel-So (Keller / Southlake) event happening tomorrow (10/04) from 2-6.
(223 S Pearson Ln, Keller TX 76248)

Tim O’Hare and Matt Krause don’t want you to go. Which means @mentack.bsky.social and I are definitely going. You should too.

In 2026, citizens of Fort Worth will have fewer opportunities to give Public Comment to the City Council than Tim O’Hare has allowed for Tarrant County. Fort Worth will have less, because council voted 7-4 to reduce opportunities to 10 a year.

@mentack.bsky.social called them out on it.

You are correct. It’s a place “for” the public to address the full council on the record. There isn’t an expectation of a back and forth. Clarifying questions or corrections at most.

There are some on the Fort Worth City Council who value input from the public, and others who are very willing to limit the channels, forcing the public into off the record spaces.

At City Council on 9/30, 7 voted to reduce the number of public comment meetings in 2026.

Patrice Jones spoke to the Fort Worth City Council and got under Mayor Mattie Parker’s seemingly very thin skin. The ask was simple. Keep public comments. It’s a place any citizen can come and address the full council. We need more of it, not less.

There are leaders in Fort Worth city government who don’t want to hear from the people they purport to represent.

As our voices are rising, they want to shut them down. EJ Carrion called them out on it. 🔥🔥

It’s amazing how quickly this administration has shattered trust in our government institutions and our democratic guardrails, this time around.
