i understand people are on high alert because of recent laws in the uk and eu that are already being misused in the uk but i don't want everyone to be misled into opposing something that would get tons of abusers arrested without really invading regular users' privacy

is there any evidence for that besides vibes/slippery slope argument? the wording in the reporting about this is very vague and i'm pretty sure i've heard about this before and it was literally just comparing hashes with cp to find matches, it sounds like it's just extending that to devices

unless i'm getting this wrong this is just fearmongering, most of the main social media platforms already compare the hash of any media with a database of csam hashes during/before upload and it gets sent to authorities if it gets flagged, unless im mistaken idk how this is a bad thing

🇮🇹 Italy is UNDECIDED, expressing doubts on including new CSAM in scope.

🇱🇻 Latvia is UNDECIDED but assesses the text positively, pending national support.
