How are you feeling about LLM-augmented coding? Frustrated by the blanket coverage? Skeptical about the benefits? Scared of being left behind? Worried about the negative impact?

I hear you, and I’m here to help. >>>

Also, you’ll get two days in Amsterdam! What’s not to like?

I’m going to be running a two-day workshop on “building robust maintainable software using GenAI” for Trifork Academy* in Amsterdam on Nov 17-18th 2025. It’ll give you an opportunity to spend two days diving in without distraction and learning how to get the best from these tools.

AI is everywhere, and if you’re a software engineer, sooner or later you might have to try coding with LLMs. It can be fun, it can be painful, it can be downright dangerous if you’re not careful, but it is possible to tease good stuff out of these capricious beasts.
claresudbery.bsky.social
How do you feel about getting LLMs to help you code?

Delighted? Appalled? Unsure?

Frustrated? Impatient? Scared?
claresudbery.bsky.social
But what does it actually mean?
claresudbery.bsky.social
Also I should maybe mention... I've been alerted elsewhere that people outside tech don't know the word "unicorn" is used to mean "someone with rare skills", and in this context it also meant "someone of rare gender". The context of this was definitely THAT context, and not one of the seedier ones!
claresudbery.bsky.social
... but it's sad because I shouldn't be a rare and special beast. At the time, I think they might have had ZERO senior female software engineers at that company. That shouldn't have been the case.
claresudbery.bsky.social
Maybe I should clarify why I'm unsure whether it's happy or sad:

It's happy because it's kind of cool for people to see you as a unicorn. Yay! I'm a rare and special beast! >>>

After I was successfully interviewed for one senior engineer job, I was later told that the two guys who interviewed me went dancing down the open plan office afterwards, chanting “We found a unicorn, we found a unicorn!”

I’ve never been sure whether that’s a happy story or a sad story.

I’ve been experimenting with LLM-augmented coding, and it’s a ride. Come read my latest post, and find out more as I describe what I’ve learnt.

Read my latest post for a simple tip to help technical leaders avoid burnout. And/or come join me at my one-day workshop for Trifork Academy in Amsterdam on Nov 19th 2025, on the topic "How to handle the technical part of technical leadership".

Why are there never enough hours in the day? Why are you always running to catch up?

Have you ever noticed that you’re not the only one? And yet, and yet. The world keeps turning. The stuff we think we’re supposed to be doing doesn’t get done, because none of us are super-human.

Last week I spoke at Agile Cambridge, and it was great being back.

I arrived in 18 degrees so started with a walk on campus :)

As always the people and the discussions were the best parts. Some people I had not seen since before the pandemic, some were new, and some I got closer to 💕

But I’m also exploring some in-person training sessions in Manchester (UK), and some online sessions. I haven’t decided on the details yet, and that’s where you can help.

If you have any interest at all in all this stuff, fill out my simple form to register an interest and express your preferences.

I’ve been experimenting with all the tools and learning how to have fun with it all and make useful progress. Appreciate the strengths and understand the weaknesses.

So anyway, I’m running some in-person workshops in Nov, at Trifork Academy* in Amsterdam and @sagconference.bsky.social in Berlin.

...with more events to be announced shortly.

But maybe you can’t get to Amsterdam or Berlin, and you’d rather explore this with your own colleagues at your own workplace (including remote), maybe building your own internal projects? I can help! >>>

Do you and your colleagues want to make the most of LLM-augmented coding, without falling down rabbit holes and getting stuck with unmaintainable code?

I’m running some in-person workshops in November, at Trifork Academy* in Amsterdam and @sagconference.bsky.social (SAG) in Berlin...

...channelling @woodyzuill.bsky.social and talking about the power of dialling collaboration up to the MAX.

What if you could eliminate tedious meetings? Come to my talk and find out how.
