1 in 100 children is born with a congenital heart defect. But there is no “artificial heart” device that exists for babies or young kids. The FDA has even identified this as an area of critical medical device need.

The Trump administration just canceled funding for clinical trials of such a device.
This 4-year-old's heart is failing. A federal grant that might help him was canceled
A Cornell University researcher has been developing an artificial heart for children for more than 20 years. Now, his research is on hold and his lab is shut down.

They absolutely get lidocaine either injected or topically applied. Also a sweet sucrose solution on a pacifier. With that combo, most babies sleep through it. Sadly not always. I’m actually not really a fan of the procedure, particularly given the history and why they became common in the US.

For some clarity, in 22 years of newborn medicine, and having cared for many hundreds of circumcised boys, and I’m not here to argue about circumcision unless you really want to, I’ve seen less than 5 get some acetaminophen.
clayjones.bsky.social
A very small percentage of circumcised newborns are given acetaminophen. He is just making shit up…obviously.

He commit even worse atrocities while using the cover of having won a Nobel Peace prize.

The Israel-Hamas peace agreement “grew directly out of Trump’s desperate thirst for the Nobel,” Jonathan Chait argues. “If dangling the award in front of Trump encourages him to work hard to end conflicts,” we must wonder what will happen if he gets it:
Trump’s Nobel Thirst Is Actually Great for the World
The president’s ego inspires plenty of bad choices, but his desire for a Peace Prize is proving useful.

He could nominate Trump. He could nominate anybody as a government leader. But he plays no role whatsoever in actually choosing winners. Fetterman is a disappointment.

FOX: Do you think Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize?

FETTERMAN: If this sticks. I think the whole point of having a Nobel Peace Prize is for ending wars and promoting peace. And if he brings the Ukrainian war to its end, I will be the Democrat leading the committee for his Nobel Prize Peace.

I’m a body language analysts worst nightmare because of my Tourette syndrome. That’s why the cops will never pin anything on me.

As more families refuse important vaccines for their kids, there will be more mothers with measles in the years ahead and more congenital infections.
clayjones.bsky.social
Spread of measles from mother to a fetus is rare, but it can happen and can cause pregnancy loss or encephalitis and death in a newborn. It also carries a higher risk of SSPE than infection in older children.
clayjones.bsky.social
Yes, there is a nugget of truth. That isn’t what “body language analysis” is though. They aren’t saying “Look at how she huffed and punched the wall. She’s frustrated.” They are saying, look at the angle between her and her boyfriend. She is clearly cheating on him.
clayjones.bsky.social
To clarify, body language is real is some circumstances. If I yell and pull my arm back as if I’m about to punch someone, there is obvious meaning in that. It is the analysis and interpretation of random or idiosyncratic movements and positions as having deep meaning that is bogus.
clayjones.bsky.social
Body language is pseudoscience with no basis in reality.

There isn’t much that could get this simple country atheist to pray, but the thought of losing Dolly Parton might just do it. I hope it’s just another case of celebrity chronic lyme disease and not something serious.

Can we please stop with these kinds of studies and this kind of language and these kind of stories. 24-hour dietary recalls (and really all our methods for dietary intake used in epidemiology) need to be used cautiously and humbly, recognizing the huge limitations
