Gua sha is scraping massage, and the bruising is the point. Here's a full critical analysis…but there’s not much to analyze. The claims are simplistic, implausible; barely any science: “Gua sha will need more than a spoon or a jar lid to smooth out the many wrinkles in its scientific literature.”
You’ve seen that heart-shaped jade stone used to smooth out facial puffiness. It’s called gua sha, except the version done by influencers (including Hudson Williams!) has little to do with the bruising Asian practice.
