The Local Biodiversity Action Fund opens today, supporting Louth County Council’s work under Ireland’s 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan launched last year by my colleague Malcolm Noonan.

At the Sept Dundalk MD meeting, I raised concerns about late-night noise, rubbish & habitat damage from vans parking on council-owned foreshores.
We need proper spaces for camper vans — but also clear rules on where they shouldn’t be. I’ve asked if prohibition orders could help regulate this.

Census 2022 found 163,433 properties (excluding holiday homes) sitting vacant across this county. 23,000 of those were vacant on census night in 2011. Heritage-led regeneration can bring those properties back on stream and provide much-needed housing in the heart of our towns, villages and cities.
