Then it needs to die. If it can't sustain itself legally and with respect to those who are allowing it to thrive, it's not ready.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Some very preliminary thoughts about faith, religion, D&D, and what I see missing from power fantasies.

As always, free to read/listen -- but particularly with this one, need to fig leaf of a subscriber wall.

"We adapt for each other. We protect one another."

Find the Creation Domain Cleric D&D subclass in the comments!

Art by @butturdapple.bsky.social #dnd #dungeonsanddragons
The Creation Domain focuses on one of the most ancient energies in existence—creation itself. In the moment before time, before the gods as we know them sought to create, there existed something that first brought forth the universe. This domain of cosmic energy is where creation is most pure, an unknowable principle that seeks to make or unmake.

Channel Divinity: Adaptive Barrier
Level 6 Creation Domain Feature

You can use your Channel Divinity to create an adaptive protective barrier around you and your allies.

As a Magic action, you create a 10-foot Emanation around yourself. Creatures of your choice (including you) within the Emanation have Resistance to one damage type of your choice. The barrier lasts for 1 minute, or can be dismissed as a Bonus Action.

When you take damage, you can use your Reaction to change the Resistance granted by the Emanation to the damage type of the triggering attack, halving the damage you take as well.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil is as true in DnD.

Talk to your DM about how your PC feels each week. What are they thinking? Even if it's just one message, this serves as fuel and inspiration for us to create more threads for you to explore.

Remember your ABCs in TTRPGs. Always be communicating.
cloaksandcapes.bsky.social
How often you chat with your DM about your PC, what they want, how they're feeling, their backstory?

Players in my game who talk to me every week, often get little moments in session. I try my best to include everyone when I can, or something with an NPC or situation where each person can shine.
cloaksandcapes.bsky.social
I've seen people complain that their DM gives too much spotlight to certain PCs. This can absolutely happen, and there are DMs who play favorites.

However, it may not always be a case of showing favoritism, but instead a case of that player just giving more material to the DM.

What is the best way to throw you off or panic you as a player in Dungeons and Dragons or other TTRPGs? What could the DM do with a BBEG to spike your heart rate?

For our party, there's a pretty tried and true go to... #dndmemes
A Dungeons and Dragons meme. In the first panel the text reads: Mysterious voice speaks to you telepathically, "Your home town is nice this time of year," next to a mannequin head labeled as My D&D Players and "Panik". The second panel reads: It rings outloud, "Don't worry, I'm not there, I wanted to introduce myself personally," and the head is now "Kalm." The final panel reads: BBEG steps out from the shadows and they're HOT, the head is once again in "Panik."

Living Rope
Wondrous Item, rare

“A small length of rope that slithers and wiggles around like a snake. If it were to sit still you wouldn’t be able to tell it apart from an ordinary length of rope except for one key distinction. On one end of the rope it has two small white eyes with beady black dots that bounce around erratically as it moves.”

This magic item is a living rope that can change its length at-will from one foot up to 50 feet long.

This magic item serves as a familiar. It acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. In combat, it rolls its own initiative and acts on its own turn. A familiar can't attack, but it can take other actions as normal.

When the familiar drops to 0 hit points, it ceases to function until you finish a long rest. This magic item is considered a tiny creature, has a movement speed of 20 feet, an AC of 10, 20 hit points and is resistant to all damage.

You can use a bonus action to command this magic item to grapple a medium creature or smaller. If the creature resists, the magic item must make a contested athletics check at disadvantage. If successful, the creature is restrained and makes all future attempts to escape at disadvantage.

The party was here to bring him to justice for taking the Barbarian's mentor from him, and said that just as the NPC that the Barb looks at as a little brother came into the room.

Didn't care so much about bringing them in at that point.

I have a new favorite line as a DM that had my player doing a double take. He was trying to convince the villain to turn himself in, who was near death.

The Villain replies, "Do what you came here to do, before I have to teach you the lesson you refuse to learn. You can't save them all."

If you could transform yourself into any kind of creature, fully, as a were-creature, or just claws and teeth -- which would you choose for your Dungeons and Dragons character? #dnd
A magic item for use in Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition tabletop role-playing game. This is a homebrew magic item created by Cloaks & Capes.

Mask of Fangs
Wondrous Item, uncommon

“A soft cloth scarf that can be pulled up over the lower half of your face and be used as a mask. It is designed to look like the maw of a predator with a wide, fanged smile.”

You can take a Bonus Action to raise or lower the mask over your face to activate and deactivate it. When you do the mask fuses to your face and becomes your mouth, allowing you to use your teeth as natural weapons. While the mask is active you cannot speak any Languages, or cast spells that require Verbal components.

Bite Attack. When you take the Attack action to make an Unarmed Strike, you can use your teeth to deal damage and are considered proficient with this attack. On a hit you deal 1d6 plus your attack modifier Piercing damage, and you can choose to use Strength or Dexterity for the attack and damage roll. Whenever you make a grapple attack with your bite, the target has Disadvantage on saving throws and ability checks to avoid or escape the Grappled condition.

At the Bard College of the Culinarian, they believe that art can be expressed through more than just sight or sound. When a Culinarian Bard cooks, bakes, broils or grills, they are creating a performance that will leave a lasting impact through all of the senses. The sound of sizzling, the sight of good food, the scent of a perfect roast, and the taste and touch of a once-in-a-lifetime meal.

You’ve become a master of your craft and the inspiration your snackling familiars give lives beyond the taste. Your snacklings no longer need to be consumed in order to grant inspiration to your allies.
When an ally uses their Bonus Action to gain Bardic Inspiration from one of your snacklings, they don’t need to eat it and can continue to benefit from its Flavor of Inspiration feature. If an ally does eat one of your snacklings, they gain the benefits of your Inspiring Meal feature, including the Temporary Hit Points from the Cozy Kitchen feature.

Use your players as a resource to build out the scene more in the moment. They’re likely asking because they have a plan. Enable and empower them to try out their ideas, even if it wasn’t originally in your vision for the scene!

How do you describe and prepare new areas for your players?
cloaksandcapes.bsky.social
DnD\TTRPG Tip for GMs!

Having vague descriptions allows your players to ask more questions about the scenario. “Is the ground wet in the cave?”, “Are there dark corners?”

I’m horrified by Trump’s order to send 300 National Guard troops to Chicago. We’re only nine months into a four year term and already the president is trying to invade an American city. If you’re in the Guard, you can and should refuse these orders.
