During the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile, underground bands played in tiny venues and distributed their music via bootleg cassettes. Artist Iván Navarro is resuscitating their work via his label, Hueso Records.

It's "the soundtrack to Operation Condor," he says.

Love the many looks that materialize in Netflix’s Juan Gabriel doc. In particular, this monochromatic charro ensemble in blue.

This story is bonkers.

Also, I hope the labor union is getting annual 3% cost of living increases.
"We didn't notice something that was noted on our 990s" is, I fear, more common than not at large nonprofits

(This is a corporate boards problem, I think, not a nonprofit specific issue – as any casual glance at the business world, and the welter of normalized self-dealing and fraud, might attest)

RIP to the inimitable Llyn Foulkes.

I once got a private concert on the machine when I profiled him for NPR!

That story about how Kash Patel is using SWAT teams to do his security and take care of his girlfriend made me think about how one of the roles of Pinochet’s security detail was to protect the dictator from flying fruit.

My narrative threads on TikTok today are a gloriously earnest kid who reviews his school lunches, the Black Hills Powwow (the dancing!!) and a fake U.S. boy band in pink velour track suits who are trying to get their fourth member, Darshan, a visa so he can join them from India.

Manspreading, but standing.
Why do they all stand so weird? Are they like flexing under there to look tough? I really don’t know what explains this pattern of unnatural poses from conservative men.

New frontier of academic freedom just dropped 🫠
This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.
