may have some exciting news coming in the next two weeks or so

bought this Mackie 1642 VLZ3 mixer for 50€. seller said it keeps burning fuses. here's hoping it's just an obviously-bad blown capacitor or something, because I don't really have the know-how of how to troubleshoot electrical stuff

oh yeah, since we're on the topic of guitars, I might as well fix up my old Landola.

Landola is a finnish guitar manufacturer started in 1942. my specific one is from 1987. it hasn't been played much ever since I got it, and it's always been stored in a room temperature, dry place

picked up this Fender Squier SA-105 for free. the bridge has started coming off. reckon it could be fixed with just some wood glue?
December 20, 2025 at 6:25 PM
bought this Boss BX-80 for 10€. I don't think the seller knew what they had and just looked at its small size and thought "oh it's probably not worth a lot". little did they know they just sold me a 90-100€ mixer haha

granted it's in a disgusting condition but nothing that a bit of wiping can't fix

These are just my musings as someone who has been involved in electronic music in one way or another for more than a decade now.

I'm curious what other folks think.

It's what I love about the VR rave space. That you always have space to move. That you can exist in public without all the danger or logistics or the capitalism. Most importantly, it's a stepping stone to living without the shame of existing authentically, in the virtual or the physical world.

What I've found is that as you let that movement flow through you there is such relief of the pain and the suffering and the hopelessness and the trauma that has been stored up in you for years. That's what I've discovered and why I'm still so drawn to spaces of sound, music, movement, people.

Some of the best clubs and raves out there make people put stickers on their phones or lock them up in lockers! When you don't have your phone to distract you or even know the time, when you're not worried about being photo'd, you start to realize what being present actually means.

It will be scary. The world around you has conditioned you to believe that you have to look 'cool' at all times. That if you in any way act different you will be shamed and ostracized. It's become especially shitty in a world of cell phone cameras and instant uploads to social media.

Move until you are sweaty and dripping and releasing. That's where the healing happens. That's where the magic is.

We've been doing this as humans for millenniums, by the way. A rave is just a modern drum circle around the fire.

I'd implore everyone who's interested in electronic music and raves: go find something small and independent and actually move. Move your body. Don't worry about how it looks, just move in whatever way feels good.

Current mainstream "raves" can lose that feeling. Being packed into an oversold space staring at a (probably cishet white male) star DJ that is designed to extract money and promote capitalism harms the healing potential. You can still find the healing there, but it's tainted and harder to grasp.

Movement and rhythm help people feel embodied, present, connected. I've personally found raves and festivals to be a source of trauma healing through movement and physical vibrations of sound. I've experienced this while completely sober. I've experienced this while under the influence of substances

Musing on raves (1/?)

People who think that raves are just a bunch of weirdos doing drugs and lurching around are ignoring the very real, studied, peer reviewed and practiced field of somatic therapy and healing.

check it out I bought this Alto Live 1604 mixer for 20€

seller said one of the channels is dead so they didn't want to use it for gigs anymore. if I can get it fixed up I should be able to get around 250€ for it
December 5, 2025 at 3:05 PM
they also gave me this Yamaha MD8 8-track minidisc recorder which happened to have their old recordings on it haha
November 28, 2025 at 2:09 PM
as much as I like fixing up old mixers, there doesn't really seem to be a whole lot of money in them. people just aren't buying them even if I put them up for sale for way less than what they're actually worth. factor into that the time investment and spare parts and I'm more or less breaking even

Behringer Xenyx 1204FX maintenance thread ✨

here's something cool: I went to Helsinki to pick up this Yamaha MV1602 plus the rack shown here for 100€ total. pretty good score already, the case alone is worth around 50€! not to even mention the mixer once I've serviced it. but it gets even better...
November 7, 2025 at 7:18 PM
oh wow

so I serviced this Boss BX-8 that I bought for TEN EUROS with PSU. took me only a couple of hours to clean everything and treat the pots. works perfectly again. listed it for sale online, and right after I had listed it on the second (out of 4) site, it insta-sold on the first for 110€ lol
