oh yeah, update on this:

the body of the guitar has cracked along the bridge holes, causing it to bunch up and push up the bridge as a result. there isn't really anything to be done to save this guitar. only salvageable things were the tuning hardware which I yoinked

I've just accepted an offer for 100€ including shipping. after payment processing and platform fees and shipping and all that, I get 68.20€. I was hoping to get a bit more but it is what it is. that's still a really solid profit, with a return of 682% on investment!

jeeeez... remember how one of them had a bunch of black tape on the top part? I took it off but none of the adhesive came off with it. I've been scrubbing this thing for nearly two hours now with copious amounts of IPA, and I'm still only like 70% done. I'll finish this up later
December 25, 2025 at 4:33 PM
finally starting work on the second one of these! I saw signs of someone else having been in here before, some of the plastic tabs holding the connectors were broken. judging by the amount of dust, that looks to have been a long time ago! it's had a long life and I'm gonna make it even longer
December 25, 2025 at 12:25 PM
oh yah, bud. 5 out of the 6 tuning posts are cracked. about time they get replaced. new parts probably arriving after christmas so can't do anything more to it for now
December 22, 2025 at 7:40 AM
also yes, the frets are quite gross to touch. the more I work on this the more I want to sell it, because I'm clearly not worthy of owning it. like everything, it requires maintenance, and I'm not enough of a guitar guy to give this the attention it desperately needs. better someone else have it
December 21, 2025 at 7:52 PM
there's a bunch of solidified grime on the fretboard. gentle scratching with a plastic shiv cut out from a card to loosen up the dirt, then some mild general purpose cleaner as well as scrubbing with a microfibre cloth cleans the fretboard up pretty well
December 21, 2025 at 7:38 PM
anyway, ordered the new replacement parts plus new strings. went with generic harley bentons (2.55€) because apparently the ones that cost 7x more don't sound 7x better. total of 40.55€ (not including shipping) for everything
December 21, 2025 at 6:31 PM
like yeah on one hand I'm not much of a guitarist (learned barre chords and how to play them fast and left it at that) (that's 99% of guitar anyway tbh) so I'm not really doing it justice just letting it sit in my closet. but then again, kind of an heirloom. maybe it's time to let go of the past
December 21, 2025 at 6:26 PM
oh yeah and add ~15€ on top of that for some good quality brand nylon strings and I bet this thing would be worth a bunch of dosh. I'm not really quite sure if I really want to sell it though... this used to be my dad's and he passed it down to me
December 21, 2025 at 6:02 PM
ah. maybe it's not in such a good shape as I expected. the saddle is cracked too

thankfully, however, despite being founded in 1942, Landola is still making replacement parts! I'll get new tuners too while I'm at it. a new nut, saddle, and mechanics comes out to a total of just 38€
December 21, 2025 at 5:56 PM
oh, as I was taking the strings off, half of the nut just comes off lol
December 21, 2025 at 4:55 PM
this means it's in a good condition, just needs a bit of cleaning. the only cons at the moment are the cloudiness in the body, the ancient strings (in its 37 year long lifespan they've never been changed!), and the nut is broken, leaving the D string intonated
December 21, 2025 at 4:40 PM
idk a single thing about strings so i don't know if these are good or bad but might as well get new strings for it since they're only like 15eur per pack and I will likely be able to sell the guitar for more than that when it's done
December 21, 2025 at 7:31 AM
after a lot of manual scrubbing with toilet paper, the fretboard looks a lot better. couldn't quite get all the dirt right next to the frets, but overall it's not bad
December 21, 2025 at 5:54 AM
tried a bit of IPA on a toothbrush and then scrubbing with some toilet paper on the fretboard. the IPA takes off a bit too much material and removes the wood texture. that's a mistake but I don't really mind as the MSRP for this guitar was just $100 to begin with. it's a learning experience

headstock clean-up with a toothbrush and IPA

a family member told me that these were actually held in place with bone glue. yeah, I'd never heard of it either lol apparently it's made from boiled cattle bones and it's real strong. there are stores that sell it in finland but of course since crimbus is a couple of days away they're closed
December 20, 2025 at 7:11 PM
not much to say about this, a pretty basic service job. just open it up, detach the PCBs and service the pots.

I have just sold it for 230€, profiting 210€. that gives me a return of 10.5x and an hourly wage of 42€ (I think I spent around 5 hours on it)
December 17, 2025 at 11:47 AM
yeah! yeah that's a bit better :)

couldn't get the surface to be perfect because there was just far too much grime caked onto it. goes to show you you gotta take care of your gear and it'll last so much longer. it's better tho!
December 14, 2025 at 8:49 AM
tested it thoroughly, and everything works perfectly with no crackles anywhere! the outputs are nice and clean, and the pots feel good to move
December 14, 2025 at 7:23 AM
the previous owner had somehow bent the channel 2 fader pot. no problem, gently bent it back with some pliers
December 14, 2025 at 7:21 AM
god DAMN it's so shiny now lol

used the exact same exposure settings between these two photos

lots of scrubbing with IPA and a toothbrush
