Artist, scientist, wanderer. Grasping at dreams I refuse to abandon.
Blindly pursuing classical animation without much in the way of rigid instruction or guidance. Sooner or later, it's all going to work out.

Day 11.
I was able to get some sleep, but not enough to stay up late animating tiger stripes.

So today is a stripeless tiger playing a claw machine.

I actually really like the way this came out and I can see how SLEEP affects my ability to do things.
No tangible productivity today.

But, sometimes work doesn't happen at a desk.

Sometimes progress doesn't look like a checklist.

Sometimes you F around, go to the record store, eat too much candy, then understand the entire story, themes, message, and characters in a single moment. 😁

Feeling a strong inclination to put down internet and prioritize going on adventures in the coming year.

2026 plan: become excellent at animation

2027 plan: make indie game using my animation skills

The cat drawing challenge has really changed my whole approach to drawing and design.

I find that I am able to convey character traits through more subtle design rather than using cliches.

Showing age and weariness in expression and acting rather than using wrinkles and beards.

Whoa!
After my week of cat studies I went back to my OC cats for the series I am planning.

The change is like night and day. The characters are so much more coherent and have EMOTION!

I'm seeing my cat characters come alive! 😁🐈

Having finished the 14 day cat drawing challenge, I see the improvement. But not just cats, also animation im general.

Im better at the process now and feel like I can do harder things.

I need to take another look at my 2026 projects and maybe plan other stuff.

Day 14!

I stuck with it and showed up every day for my silly challenge. Even days I realllllly didn't want to.

To honor my little marathon, I came back to the first Cheetah I drew on day one, and them gets a nap now.

So I've been doing a lot of cat drawing study for two weeks and - something interesting:

When I close my eyes now, I see (like actually see) highly detailed cat drawings. Many of these are not even subjects I worked on.

It's like a dream, only I'm not asleep and the images are extremely vivid.

Working up to the last day of cat drawing studies.

I'm really looking forward to finishing my goal and taking what I've learned back to my passion projects.

At what point do I get to call myself an artist?
December 23, 2025 at 2:40 PM
Day 13.

I took a break from animating today and just spent some time drawing from reference and chilling out.

So just images today, like day 1.

I'm probably weird, but I feel the Odyssey works better if it feels smaller. Less epic. I relate to it more if Odysseus seems truly lost in a wilderness.

If I'm being honest, this is too many days of consecutive cat drawing.

But I'm determined to complete all 14 days even though I'm running out of ideas.

Anyway, a simple walk cycle but the kitty is in the water.

Nothing that I've seen from Inspector Gadget proves that Dr. Claw wasn't the cat all along.

Day 10. No real animation today because I'm severely underslept.

But I did add butterflies and soend some time studying tiger shapes!

Someday, future species may have no other record of the animal life humans have destroyed except for the art we leave behind.

Cozy cartooning moment.
December 19, 2025 at 1:21 PM
Day 9.

I'm just being goofy with this now.

I think it's great progress that I can turn the reference images into a cat that can move believably.

I'm becoming increasing convinced that not only will AI not go anywhere, widespread adoption will destroy our digital infrastructure and leave the coutry in shambles.

A modern atlantis, but like with a flood of stupid.
December 18, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Funny thing about the net now. I have more trust and faith in the purity of ideas in art (animation specifically) than in live or AI videos.

Live vids are trying to manipulate me in bad faith. Art is displaying an idea on its merit alone. Even even if it may be dubious, I know where it stands.

Morning sketch.

Anybody interested in seeing a rubber hose gleeok animation? Cuz I'm gonna do it anyway.
December 18, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Wow. I just noticed that I've only been actively trying to learn animation for the last six months.

But in that time I have made 20x as much as all the last 20 years of dreaming combined.

5 seconds of animation in 2002, 100 this year.

I'm ready to start making real things in 2026.

Yay me.
December 18, 2025 at 1:20 PM
Day 8. This one was rough, I got no sleep last night and I couldn't think of what to animate the cat doing.

Still, I don't hate it.
December 18, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Wow so two days in a row now I find hundreds more AI slop images masquerading as photo references for Snow Leopards.

The internet is being replaced with crap.
