It seems to me there is an emerging consensus that LLM GenAI is detrimental to critical thinking. Can anyone make a counter argument grounded in research?

I spent the day today at an advocacy event for #AIinEdu put on by World Saavy and aiEDU. The event was advertised as an opportunity for student voice but the message was crafted from the very beginning that AI is inevitable in edu and necessary to be prepared for "the workplace".

I teach in the tradition of Liberatory Pedagogy. I am confident in my teaching when I am teaching but it is so counter-cultural that in adult spaces I shrink. The foundation of this Pedagogy is student choice. This does not mean an abdication by the teacher. It's harder than obedience.

LLM GenAI is a product that no one ever asked for. Many people see the massive investment with no justifying revenue as evidence of a bubble; however, I don't think this is the whole story.

Erasing Black History is not just an act of racism. It is an attempt to make sure that white people don’t know that they can fight oppression. It’s an attempt to let white people know they can sleep in the hay in the barn and don’t have to be on the streets, so long as we behave.

If you're in the East Bay and looking to be part of the solution, show up at the bridge to Coast Guard Island. Lots of clergy and older folks there now. Get in the way. Slow them.down.
