It’s clear to us that management doesn’t have anything resembling a coherent plan forward other than to union-bust and passively fire our members. We won’t allow that to happen.
condeunion.bsky.social
Along with that, another wave of enforced RTO is putting more of our remote members in the impossible position—uproot their lives with little notice or be forced out.
condeunion.bsky.social
Just days ago we were told by @CondeNast management about the health of the company, that while it’s a challenging time for the media, it’s not a particularly scary time for us. So why MORE layoffs?

UNACCEPTABLE: Our members are flooding Slack, demanding answers after we were notified by Condé Nast management that they AGAIN want to lay off union members.

More than 130 of Stan, Roger, and Anna's employees showed up yesterday hoping to meet with their executives. The execs never RSVPed no, instead they stood us up. But we spent the time productively without them, and they will be hearing about the results of the meeting soon.

It did not. Our questions were not fully answered, and Roger and Stan's employees want to hear directly from their execs about issues that impact their work and lives. We hope to see them at tomorrow's Town Hall.

Shortly following these posts, Condé reached out to assert that a closed, last minute meeting last week between HR and a few union officers should have satisfied our members' desire to hear directly from Condé's chief executives.

As our members continue to receive RTO ultimatums (move to NY or lose your job), get their ADA requests denied, and struggle with empty roles remaining unfilled, this meeting proves especially important. If Stan and Roger don't attend, we'll post our questions for them instead.

Our lunch town hall is tomorrow! We invited Condé CEO Roger Lynch and Stan Duncan to come and answer our questions.
condeunion.bsky.social
We will soon be inviting Roger and his co-execs to attend a union Town Hall to answer their employees’ questions in a more focused setting. We will get the answers we deserve.

Watching our well-paid executives perform this story as they deny our disability-accommodation requests and force us to move to the country’s most expensive city or lose our jobs adds insult to injury.
condeunion.bsky.social
Instead, the company spent 10 minutes of the 40-minute meeting recreating Epicurious’s viral Squid Games video with CEO Roger Lynch and other members of management. Squid Games is a story about life-threatening wealth inequality.

🧵CONDE NAST SQUID GAMES: Today Conde Nast
held a company-wide meeting. Nearly a week in advance, our members submitted a list of questions about the future of the company, RTO policies, and enforcement and staffing; we received no answers.

We know our rights to protected concerted activity. And we know our unity has power. (5/5)

🧵 A ‘WARM SUMMER DAY;” Despite @GovKathyHochul’s state of emergency declaration @CondeNast management is refusing to give our members the safety to work remotely and avoid dangerous commuting. ….

Instead of having a discussion with us, @CondeNast VP of Labor Relations stormed out of the meeting, yelled at the supporters gathered in the hallway, called security on us, and threatened discipline. Intimidation won’t work. We know our rights under the contract. (4/5)
condeunion.bsky.social
Today our grievance committee met – and we turned out to show support, asking Condé to work with us and respect our contract. (3/5)

They ignored Governor Hochul’s declared state of emergency and clear contract language giving our members the option to avoid dangerous commutes. (2/5)

BRINGIN’ THE HEAT: We have filed a grievance against @CondeNast over management’s disregard for worker safety during last week’s heat wave. (1/5)
Pieces of white paper on a wooden tabletop. One reads “WORK WITH US!!!” Another: “employees have the right to work remotely when [they] have a reasonable concern that travel would pose a risk to their health (e.g. a state of emergency).” Another reads “HONOR THE CONTRACT”
condeunion.bsky.social
Our members called out this clear contract violation in a company-wide reply-email action on Monday. We demand Condé management respect the contract and allow their employees to choose not to commute during a deadly heat wave.

Our contract, which they signed just a year ago, explicitly gives us this right. When we brought this to Condé’s attention their VP of Labor Relations said “excused absence requests will not be approved for warm summer days.” It’s over 100 degrees in NYC.

Nothing says "we know what we're doing" like three rounds of layoffs in six months...

The #MetGala is fashion’s biggest party, but it wouldn’t be possible without Condé Nast’s unionized employees. A dandy night for celebrities is made possible by overworked and underpaid employees.

The #metgala isn’t Superfine for the Condé Nast employees who are required to work overtime without fair pay — or covering for their colleagues who have been laid off.
