Surprise! NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona is seen as one of the best classic NASCAR games, but it always had a downside of being locked to 30 FPS.
This changes today: I uncapped the physics simulation updates, achieving perfect 60 FPS, just like Heat 2002 did.

To no one's surprise, I couldn't make PMR playable on Steam Deck at all: Even when I'm alone on the track with the lowest details and FSR3 Performance, I'm getting simulation slowdowns. And throwing my benchmark race at the Deck makes it cry. The rear view mirror is broken, too.

Growing increasingly curious of a "What if we never progressed past the PS1 visuals" alternate reality on display here ngl.
Ah yes, the times when we actually considered setting the game in modern-day Japan~~

But now it’s just going to be a little Easter egg (or maybe a standalone game in the future, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves ;)

Throwing PMR at my secondary PC reveals a few facts:
1. Despite me selecting 1080p, the final reso is still 1280x1024, only the internal res is affected.
2. i7-6700K is absolutely too slow for the game.
3. Solo time trials reveal GTX 1070 can deal with Medium details + upscaling!

You can't get around @projectmotorracing.bsky.social requiring a beefy CPU with lots of threads, but you can definitely get away with a weaker GPU - the gap between the absolute lowest (with no AA) and maximum (with DLAA) details is admirable.

Come on what did I do to deserve this? This AI is heartless 😭

Maybe I'm not playing enough modern games with Nordschleife, but I don't remember the trees being -this- dense in other games. It genuinely looks like a forest.

If you use the AI tire data on the player car and disable tire wear, @projectmotorracing.bsky.social turns into Forza Horizon and I think that's fun as hell.

Anti-climatic resolution to this: Turns out that in our current build, VSync is broken and it engages an FPS limiter (see stats), while VSync remains off. Since I play in a borderless window and the game doesn't allow tearing, I couldn't tell. VSync off + borderless = no stutter.

NEW VIDEO OUT!

I used to think that my feelings on games looking more unique when I was a kid was mostly nostalgia. Turns out I was just right all along. This is a video about that.
Yes, games really WERE cooler years ago

Out of sheer curiosity, Lime Rock in @projectmotorracing.bsky.social vs NASCAR 25

The gamepad seems pretty usable, all things considered. I don't dare turn forced traction control off, though.

PMR's UI feels very placeholder-y, but it's mostly usable - but this screen makes me wonder if it's any different on the consoles because I feel like flashing colors this rapidly could fail the console certification.

That's an acute observation, did the flag give it away?
November 22, 2025 at 9:37 PM
Unicode awareness is in order, at least.

I don't understand what's going on here yet, but it really is like the simulation is hitching. The game stays at stable 60 FPS, but frames are skipping from time to time, as if the simulation was skipping forwards sometimes.

Proton Experimental received an update, which means NASCAR 25 is now playable with it and Proton Bleeding Edge is no longer necessary!

Hard for a better showcase of how relatively light on the GPU NASCAR 25 is than by having it run at native 4K on Steam Deck at framerates only slightly lower than when it runs at 1280x800:

Grass is very detailed, can be moved and the damage seems to be permanent - yup that's a Farming Sim engine alright

All the "cool" debug visualizations are present in this build, but no "harmful" features (like say, teleport) were left behind - so I see this as an absolute win.

This will come in handy for the review I'm sure.

Let me change the language, I don't want to play in Polish 🥴

Project Motor Racing right here with a throwback to what installing games without Steam was like - about to find out what it works like! I don't intend to focus on the content much, but will be nitpicking the technicalities.

Patrick finished the race -last-, and he hit the side of my car as he was getting lapped while exiting the pitlane, and he's the one crying that I get in the way of real racers

NASCAR 25 simulates the social media commentary perfectly

2 years later, no dedicated BTCC game 😭

NASCAR 25 is an enjoyable game that is very basic on the tech side, and its PC port delivers the bare minimum. I played the game for a few days, benchmarked it on two different machines, and tried to run it on a Steam Deck. Read the full review on my blog:
