My parents get so many notifications from their Ring of someone at their door. It is, at best, annoying. At worst, it fosters a type of hyper-vigilance and a state of constant alert (they have limited the camera as much as possible to cut down on the notifications, too)
Probably the worst of them all is the Ring doorbell.

It’s sold as safety, but it’s much more about fear and paranoia in a box that turns you against your community. The more of them in the world, the worse our neighborhoods get. Don’t help the spiral continue.

This part, specifically, seems like it has implications for the "use LLMs to create course materials" crowd infecting education.

Oh joy and here's me not able to get my flu shot for three more weeks!
In Texas' public health region 6/5S, which includes Houston, the number of emergency department visits for influenza is already almost on par with the *peak* of last year.

If this was enacted in Palau, it would reduce suicide rates and alcoholism. I hope they are watching this!
BREAKING: Marshall Islands becomes the first country to launch a Universal Basic Income program. Every resident (about 33,000 people) will receive $200 every 3 months. This works out to being about 11% of GDP per capita. If the US did that same percentage, the UBI would be about $770/mo.

No, we need to tell her to help make room in the Republican party to oppose Trump. The answer is not to drag Democrats further right, but to leave room for Republicans to move further left.
Raskin: We are a big tent. We must be a huge, vast tent. I say this is a party that’s got room for Marjorie Taylor Greene if she wants to come over.

Several states have closed primaries and TX Rs have been pushing to close the primaries here. Changing affiliation is not the way forward!
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

Prosecution isn't only coming for ICE
Our top story: “We’ve heard reports from around the state already about local police working with ICE and kind of conducting these kinds of racial profiling stops where they see brown people driving a work van, and they’ll pull them over on a pretext, and then just immediately call ICE.”
Texas Turns Its Sprawling State Police Force Into Immigration Agents for Trump
The notorious 287(g) task force program has finally reached DPS, raising fears of widespread racial profiling.

Holy fazoli, anything is possible tonight, apparently

(Yes, yes, runoff...but you know these numbers will be giving TX Rs nightmares for the next 12 months)
Could have better communicated why this is notable: This is a special election in a district that went +18% for Trump in 2024, and includes Tarrant County - a belwether and the state's 4th-largest county, where Republicans have openly tried to suppress Democratic votes and power.
In Texas 9th SD, Democrat Taylor Rehmet is leading three candidates-including Leigh Wambsganss, a well-known Christian nationalist activist who was supported by Trump, Texas GOP leaders and far-right donor Tim Dunn. The district includes Tarrant County, a +5% Trump county + bellwether for the state.

I have been hoping for this result for my CyFair friends! Let's gooooooooo!
Friends in Cy-Fair ISD are ecstatic. I cannot emphasize enough what an earthquake these results will be. This flips control of the board in a district, where books been banned, LGBTQ students maligned, & whole chapters of textbooks dealing w/ climate change & vaccines electronically censored. HUGE.
