Same here! Tatsächlich in den USA dann nachgeholt - und im letzten Drittel dann auch verstanden, warum der bei uns nicht bekannter ist. Weil zur Zeit, wo er entstanden ist, wollte man bei uns an alles rund ums Nazi-Regime ja möglichst nicht erinnert werden.

True; then again, that wasn't really something that was on anyone's radar back in the day. And even if played by a cis-person, such a transgender-storyline would have been pretty revolutionary for the early-to-mid-90s. I understand the reason why they dropped it, but still think it's a shame.

As for Furlan: Who knows? Personally, from what I know of her, I don't think that she would have minded a transgender-storyline in principal. There actually is an old promo clip with her distorted voice online somewhere, which indeed didn't sound too great. So I tend to believe the official "story".

Andrea Thompson felt that she had not enough screen time in Season 2. JMS explained to her that different seasons had different focal points, and that her time would come, but she wasn't willing to wait.

Her marriage with Jerry Doyle might have played some part too, but that's pure speculation.

Andrea Thompson dropping out prevented the Ivanova/Winters-relationship from playing out. And in the case of transgender Delenn, the official reason given was that they couldn't get the male voice right. Also, Mira Furlan seemingly wasn't too keen on the original (more male-looking) make-up.
