This was a problem in Hollow Knight, too.

Has anyone more successfully disappeared from public life than George W. Bush?

So really, you can have a consistent position where you consider the animal abuser a moral monster but not the meat-eater (I hold this position, in fact!) but I don't think you can consistently be against kicking puppies for fun while supporting factory farming.

I agree, domestic animal abuse displays a moral deficiency that consuming animal products doesn't. But that's a comment on a person's character, not the morality of the structure itself. Animal ag causes far more suffering than harming pets does. This should matter to people who care about animals.

Just so we're clear, in this analogy, the livestock are the serial killers?

I mean, the basic point is this: if you don't like when people hurt animals, you should boycott the "hurting animals" industry

Have to be? No, definitely not. But if you're upset about animal abuse, you probably should be vegan. I mean maybe you only care about dogs and cats and such and don't mind the abuse of pigs, chicken, cattle, and so forth. But if you do care about animal abuse in general, you shouldn't support it.
Bluesky tweet: "You have to be vegan to be upset about animal abuse? Big if true"

This person isn't defending Hasan; they're questioning whether you're inconsistent in your position on animal rights

They are, and the consequences are extremely dire, but that pales in comparison to the much bigger problem: we don't have a legitimate president of the United States right now. What we are to make of his enablers and supporters who have thereby also delegitimized themselves is a secondary problem.

We live in such a dangerous, uncertain, remarkable, amazing world, and I hope we are capable of living in it together.

Humans are such beautiful, terrible, incredible, horrible, wonderful, inspiring, heartbreaking creatures, and we only get so much time to try to be our best selves.

I have had the occasional experience of being made uncomfortable, or even feeling nervous about my safety, when encountering homeless people in cities. This has not changed my view that homeless people are human beings who should be treated with respect and dignity.

I've been skeptical of UUism in the past, and I've been to a couple of their services that just didn't work for me. But this one did, so that was nice.

The reason people suspect LLMs are conscious is that they are capable of doing things that were previously only doable with consciousness. To me, it seems more likely that we have found another means of doing these things. Which is quite remarkable in and of itself.
