Very cool Sabre Wulf map. Draw by Oli Frey and originally published in CRASH, but then republished in ZZAP! 40 years ago this month to coincide with the game's release on C64. Just a great piece of art, plus a an easy way to fill a couple of pages in our tips section.

Tomahawk crashonline.org.uk/23/tomahawk....

“The only real problem that I had with the game was that it was a bit tough to get right into.”
vs
“The best thing about Tomahawk is that it’s instantly accessible. I found it very easy to power up and fly around with practically no skill involved at all”

In 1984/5, a spectacular Konami arcade game carved out genre norms for what we'd now call fighting games. Ocean had conversion rights, but were stretched enough that one version ended up subcontracted to a 14-year-old. It still became the UK's bestselling game of 1986.

New post on Yie Ar Kung-Fu:
Yie Ar Kung-Fu – “Hot fighting history”
Ocean’s contract with Konami to port their arcade games under the Imagine label had quickly worked well with Hyper Sports. Even if it did end up competing with Ocean’s own Daley Thompson’s Decathlo…

I've never played Purple Saturn Day, but I can tell you this for nothing...

Speccy Altered Beast 67%, not on your nelly mate!

Take 50 off that... 17% is way more than fair for this abysmal, eyesore, jerky bag of shite!

Purple Saturn Day crashonline.org.uk/71/saturn.htm

“The game is graphically very good with colourful, nicely defined sprites (especially impressive are the players’ ‘hands’ on the cockpit controls) combining well with the pleasant title tune.”

Dark Star www.crashonline.org.uk/11/darkstr.htm

‘After numerous attempts, numerous tape decks, I managed to get Dark Star loaded, though the way I did it was unethical. Well, onto the game; it’s certainly the best and certainly the fastest 3D shoot em up game I’ve ever played to date.’
