The 7th September 2025 is World #Radiotherapy Awareness Day, the date the first patient was treated on a linear accelerator. Radiotherapy helps to cure #cancer, alleviates symptoms and improves quality of life. Radiotherapy is also a highly cost-effective cancer treatment.

Things that make me happy:
Seeing an RT planning & evaluation solution for #reirradiation that I’ve helped develop in its (nearly) final version. Amazing work by @raysearchlabs.bsky.social @solstina.bsky.social @crukradnetleeds.bsky.social & colleagues.
Probably highlight of #ESTRO25 so far for me 😍

“There is this terrible misconception that disabled people just take, but actually by taking from us, you prevent us from being able to give – we want to be able to participate in life equally the same as anyone else, and that includes going to work.” Disability campaigner Tanni Gray-Thompson

A joyous #cancer #fundraising update:

I just hit the £1200 mark. Beyond my wildest dreams.

Am in awe of the generous support from colleagues, Leeds alumni, profs, postdocs, PhDs, friends, family, old clients and total strangers.

🙏 I'll keep going! 🙏

A post from Ruth's Charity Walk along Hadrian's Wall
The charity trek is becoming real. I have finally read the small print 🤣, only to realise we are actually staying on a real campsite and having dinner in the nearby pub, after the first day of walking...

In 2024, 74,000 cancer patients in England didn’t start their treatment on time - enough people to fill Old Trafford. Today we’re speaking with #OneCancerVoice to call on the UK Government to fully fund its National Cancer Plan, so patients can get the care they deserve.

And you, Anthony. It's been such an inspiring afternoon of exciting science, and learning what RadNet hopes to achieve. What a team of collaborators!

Some of us are struggling to get home just a few miles away, so it's definitely best you didn't travel.

Our Director, Professor David Sebag-Montefiore @montefiored.bsky.social on the #BBC Breakfast sofa this morning. More than 16,800 people die of #bowelcancer each year in the UK. Early diagnosis can help to cure ~90% of bowel #cancer patients. If you're over 50, do send your testing kit back!

The bowel cancer screening programme in Scotland is remarkable. At a time when all we hear is terrible news about our NHS, let’s celebrate a magnificent achievement.

As an over 50, I receive a ‘poo stick’ every year. I sent mine on Monday. I received the all clear by letter yesterday.

Amazing!

We would like to see a bigger '#PPIE' by far!

And a bigger 'collaboration(s)'!

Come and join our group, and make 'impact' even bigger too! We need more and a wider diversity of members of the public to help us to make our research (and radiotherapy) more effective, kinder and smarter.
A word cloud illustrating the most used words in our recent documentation. Radiotherapy, research, re-irradiation, cancer are among the biggest words, but we need more and a wider diversity of members of the public to help us to make our impact bigger, and our treatment more effective, kinder and smarter.
