🚨Deadloch heads: S2 of the Aussie crime satire/drama (it's good!) arrives on Amazon Prime March 20. Many chaotic Aussie weirdos return/debut. But HEADS UP they have added a Hemsworth (Luke)! This is not a drill! Kudos to the hair & costume team for this whole deal. www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/st...

Okay, for the folks who asked: here's the majority AI view, writing up the reasonable, thoughtful view on AI that the vast majority of people in tech hold, that gets overshadowed by the bluster and hype of the tycoons trying to shill their nonsense. anildash.com/2025/10/17/t... Please share!

I was disappointed a bit by Murder by Decree, and I have lots of love for Holmes films. Perhaps the style didn't work for me. And honestly I think I need to move Constantine up that missing 1/2 star.

Re LLMs writing term papers: the other day I saw someone say that using LLMs to write is like bringing a forklift to the gym. It's not that the weights need to go up; it's that you need to do the lifting. The doing of the work is the result, not the paper being done or the weights having moved.

Feels a good day for a thread. So I would like to introduce you to a mostly forgotten, but actually rather pivotal figure in PC history.

Meet Dr Portia Isaacson Bass.

If it wasn't for something she did in 1981, we'd all still be forced to use IBM (or IBM-licensed) PCs right now. /1

For someone with a moderate level of reading comprehension text is so much better at quickly transferring information than videos or podcasts. Im bothered by what seems like half the “news” in the world being posted as media only.

At some point I burned out on podcasts of "straight white men talking" and don't listen to many these days. But @jameshoffmann.bsky.social continues to be thoughtful and articulate and I found this discussion worth the listen (with my morning coffee).

David Lynch's passing calls me to recall "The Perfect Drug," written for Lynch's Lost Highway, a personal NIN fave, though I'd not ever seen the video for it, it's amazing in a real "More goth, no, more goth than that, what part of 'more goth' do you not understand" sort of way

The Matrix.
Keep Hugo Weaving.

Equilibrium. Keep Christian Bale
