Any fault here lies not with people creating, writing, drawing, acting, performing, or expressing themselves; it lies with a fundamental dishonesty in what the platform *actually* offers.

I came here because of how they marketed it, because of artists I followed from other platforms, and because it was presented as a platform where you could exert control over what you see. They literally have features to prevent you from seeing NSFW content baked right in.

I created a separate online identity to insulate my NSFW writing from my offline life. I like when adults read and appreciate my work, because that's who I'm writing it for. If they want a "kid-friendly" BlueSky, then make "BlueSkyKids" and keep it SFW only. Won't find me on it.

I see this a lot in online discourse about adult material or material dealing with dark topics. "But you wouldn't want a kid to read that, would you?" "What if a teenager sees the porn you drew?" "You want to help keep kids safe online, right?"

I think this is a fundamental misunderstanding in 1/??

SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.

Is genAI bad for the environment? Yes. Is it sourced from creatives unethically? Also yes. Is it used in the workplace as a pretense for firing workers? Also yes. Is it used by fascists and grifters for misinformation campaigns? Also yes.

But does it at least look good? No.
