Unironically as soon as Nier did it every game does this with no explanation why. I know technically why, because it's easier to prevent clipping when the weapon isn't touching the models. But Nier at least had a reason and even then it was only Automata, OG and Replicant didn't do that
Started up Endfield and became filled with sorrow not at the gameplay but because your weapon teleports and floats behind you like genshin impact which only does that inexplicably because they liked nier automata and now every game does it

Finding out I could do this in BOTW made me realize why I loved how dungeon items were handled and wish the runes were acquired in dungeons rather than all at the beginning. Imagine a Zelda game where there were more bosses designed around your tools like this, it's simple but satisfying
