MARY EDWARDS WALKER (1832-1919) graduated from Syracuse Medical College with honors in 1855, the only woman in her class. When the civil war broke out, she tried to join the U.S. Army as a surgeon, but was denied a commission as a medical officer because she was a women. #History #Herstory 1/2

JEANNETTE RANKIN (1880-1973) was ardent pacifist, she was the only member of congress to vote against entering WW1 & WW2. In 1968, she lead a peace march with 5000 women to protest the Vietnam war. #History #Herstory

📆Oct. 23 1915: 25,000 women marched up Fifth Avenue demanding the right to vote in the United States. This became one of the largest demonstrations for women’s suffrage at the time, helping build momentum leading up to the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. #WomenInSTEM #WomenMakingHistory
