It gets worse.

On what grounds can any AI / LLM company claim their products should be allowed into the classroom (under the banner of 'personalised learning / tutors') when they freely admit their products are not trustworthy or accurate?

They should read @daisychristo.bsky.social's new blog!

In this post we explain 3 new things we've learned from our AI assessments this term.

- More data showing AI judges agree with humans
- AI is better at Comparative Judgement than absolute judgement
- AI can judge subject content essays

So much wisdom in this short blog from @daisychristo.bsky.social. Ostensibly it's about the potential of LLMs as tutors, but in the process it offers deeper insights about human learning and why edtech so often falls short of its promise to transform it substack.nomoremarking.com/p/llm-tutors...

Can LLMs be personal tutors?

In theory yes; in practice there are some big challenges to overcome. I list four here.

In particular we have to get away from the idea that explanations = learning.

I have to say, I find this letter completely baffling for a number of reasons:

It’s really hard to give students generic advice about spotting misinformation.

Almost any piece of general advice you can give requires context and background knowledge to be useful.

AI-enhanced Comparative Judgement is working really well. It saves teachers 90% of their time and reduces human error.

We've just published the results from our latest AI-enhanced Comparative Judgement assessment.

AI is uncannily good at judging student writing!

Most of the time the AI agrees with humans, and when it doesn't, it tends to be the result of human error!

Latest on our Substack - What kind of student feedback do teachers think is best?

Turns out they are quite keen on summaries of their class's performance...

We've created AI-generated "examiner's reports" to help them.

As usual, powerful and thought-provoking from @daisychristo.bsky.social. The analysis of the problem with the Y6 SATs reading test is spot on. Having said that, I wasn’t fully on board with Daisy’s proposal for reasons that I put in a note / comment here.

What Daisy says here about the possible Y8 reading test also works for the current Y6 reading test. Personally, the least that could happen is that they’d relax the 60-minute time limit.

Do we need it?
