There will be a lot of work to do in the next few months to ensure we get a policy recommendation based on international standards, but after this weekend, I am confident that midwives across Europe are aligned and ready to do the advocacy we need to get there.

So proud of these young Croatian midwives! #YouthDay2025
This #InternationalYouthDay, we’re spotlighting Klaudia and Melani—two midwifery students who launched a peer-led CSE project to bring age-appropriate, rights-based education directly into classrooms.
This is what youth-led change looks like.

Thirty years but three hundred, and three hundred more, would not be enough to wash away the shame of executing children.

The Srebrenica Genocide is the apex horror of a broader genocide of the Bosniak people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

To all my colleagues at @internationalmidwives.org and the amazing midwives I've got to know through the years of beign "midwife adjacent" - happy #IDM2025.

When there is a crisis "look for the helpers". This year's theme reminds us of who those helpers are, and that we should support them.
Happy #IDM2025!

Today we celebrate midwives—essential, trusted, and critical in every crisis.

In a world facing growing emergencies, it’s not if crisis will strike—but when. And when it does, you want midwives there.

I didn't know the late pope did so much work on climate - but I'm not surprised. It's about Leading with a capital "L", not to perfection (that's impossible) but to take steps forward, even when it's hard.

One of the most interesting articles I've read in a long while.
It was a tremendous honour - and an out-of-body-experience that enraged many conservatives - to be invited to the Vatican to help launch the ecological encyclical, Laudato si'.

I wrote about being a secular Jewish feminist at the Vatican here: www.newyorker.com/news/news-de...
A Radical Vatican?
By asserting, in his recently published encyclical, that nature has a value in and of itself, Pope Francis is overturning centuries of theological interpretation.

We lost the only true moral leader on the world stage.

It's immense.

But Pope Francis led by listening to the grassroots, lifting up the people's demands.

He put "ecological debt" in the climate encyclical, a concept that emerged in Ecuador's oil-poisoned jungle.

Millions of leaders remain.
