Made it this far. Gunning for Strummer next.
Never mind the ethics or morality of going, the self-interest reasons for going are out the window as well. It would be an act of self harm. Of course, we couldn’t have a worse judge of a situation making the decision.
Should the Taoiseach visit the White House this St Patrick's Day? jrnl.ie/6930657

In the wake of Trump's tariff threat to European countries over Greenland, a Labour MEP said he "would seriously question the validity" of the annual trip to the US.

Maybe if a year ago countries had responded with “grand so, tax your own people more 🤷‍♂️”, and media hadn’t gone along with the moronic framing that exporting countries’ governments pay tariffs, Europe wouldn’t be in this boat now, trying to navigate this nonsense.

Being in NATO, spending over €1,000 per head of population per year on its military, and having dozens of soldiers killed helping America’s terrorism in the Middle East still isn’t good enough for the yanks. Again, we would be off our rockers being in any alliance that has American involvement.
Miller: Denmark is a tiny country with a tiny economy and a tiny military. They cannot defend Greenland… Under every understanding of law that has existed about territorial control for 500 years, to control a territory you have to be able to defend a territory…

Another way of looking at this is that ‘people are entitled to their opinions’ is correct, and ‘other people are then entitled to their opinions *about you*’. So many people who insist on the former think the latter should somehow be verboten.
Just a reminder - the whole 'People are entitled to their opinions' is correct when it's something like 'tea is better than coffee' not when it's 'gay people are an abomination'. 🤷‍♂️

Seems the problem at X/Grok is they tried to remove the child abuse and predatory behaviour prompts to avoid being banned in the UK and it basically lost its reason for being and died.

Meh, that's what the dipshits get for awarding it to your one in the first place. Hopefully it has killed the concept.

The words media organisations are *choosing* to use to describe [waves hands at everything] are a huge problem! This is just theft, in plain sight, no attempt to hide it. And here it's just framed as a 'controversial plan'.
The deal has kick-started the president’s controversial plan to sell up to 50mn barrels of Venezuelan oil, with more sales expected in the ‘coming days and weeks’. ft.trib.al/a2pf6om

A disappointment of the last year was no one calling their bluff on tariffs and the dawning realisation just how spineless America's 'allies' are. America almost singularly is the country that gave up all social protections for cheap treats. The best way to beat them was to let them beat themselves.
It's well known that the US will use weaponised tariffs etc. to threaten any country that tries to rein in their tech companies. No ones gonna do anything about X, unless everyone does, but they won't. We are under the guns of an Empire, we have to buy their opium

Martin’s focus group advisers have seen the needle move, so he has had to change his words.
Taoiseach says he's convening a meeting with a number of ministers and the Attorney General to see what can be done.

"Friendship" between Elon Musk and Trump is "irrelevant" to the Government... "we have to be ruthless to protect people".

He's been stronger here than he was in comments last week.

There’s no inconsistency or hypocrisy there. They never believed everyone had rights or that freedoms are universal. They believe in their own freedom and in their unlimited right to smash fuck out of anyone who impedes or resists them. And this is how it’s been for decades, at least.

I have a big problem with people letting the Americans off like this. It doesn’t matter anymore if it was ‘Russian intelligence’. His popularity is still 40%, whole swathes of the media support it all, and the supposed opposition refuses to criticise him beyond mild rebuke.

About time, and incredible to be impressed by what should have been the immediate response as soon as this reared its head.
Niamh Smyth also says Apple and Google should remove Grok and X from their stores while it is generating CSAM and nonconsensual intimate images of women.

A much tougher government stance than we've heard from some colleagues in recent days.
