i think i would have a much easier time remembering, for example, the sequence below from a pictograph of "left hand". at its worst you'll have to use mnemonics for some phonetic loans, but seeing the original radicals has helped me in those cases too

they should make a "mnemonic method" of learning chinese (or japanese) characters by looking at how they evolved over time from their original forms instead of the meaningless story-creation methods, there's so much interesting history to draw from
