HALLOWEEN TEAM: SHADOWS comic book series is out now! https://a.co/d/dbPDyD3
Caught up on SHE RIDES SHOTGUN. A slightly more high-minded version of a classic 80's/90's era thriller, that might have gotten regular TNT rotation back in the day. I liked it. Cool vibes. Solid cast (great kid performance from Ana Sophia Heger). Would love more movies like this to get made.

I do think that Wake Up Dead Man would have killed it at the box office had it gotten a true wide release, been at all the big chains, and gotten a solid month-long run prior to going up on Netflix. It's a franchise that works across multiple generations and is great holiday alternative viewing.

Every time I see the Waterworld show at Universal, I always imagine what would happen if Kevin Costner were to come out at the end of the show and surprise announce that yes, finally, Waterworld 2 was on its way. Because we, the loyal patrons of the Waterworld theme park show, demanded it.

What a cliffhanger to this week’s Pluribus …

Did a first time watch of Breathless and then caught new movie NOUVELLE VAGUE (about the making of Breathless) on Netflix. Another great film from Richard Linklater - lived-in, charming, full of interesting characters. Vividly depicts the community and spirit at the heart of the French New Wave.

WAKE UP DEAD MAN is a lot of fun and very funny. Still deciding where I'd rank it among the Knives Out movies, but loved the cast (Josh O'Connor and Glenn Close are standouts - along with Daniel Craig) and it's got a lot of interesting things to say about religion. Glad I got to see it in a theater.

HAMNET is powerful, emotionally-draining, haunting, and has an unforgettable ending. Chloe Zhao imbues this one with an ethereal energy that makes it feel completely different from a typical Hollywood melodrama. Paul Mescal is excellent. And Jessie Buckley, wow. May very well be the best in the biz.

Capped off Thanksgiving with a viewing of TRAIN DREAMS on Netflix. An incredible, quietly powerful lead performance from Joel Edgerton. And a fascinating story that, through small slice-of-life moments, shows America’s progression from Old West frontierism into industrialized modernity.

SISU: ROAD tO REVENGE delivers pretty much exactly what you'd want from a Sisu sequel. While I wouldn't put it quite on the same level as the first, this one still has more than enough jaw-dropping moments of over-the-top action and gore to be fun and memorable and a crowd-pleaser.

Wow, ZOOTOPIA 2 is one of the biggest surprises of the year for me. Was mild on the first movie, but absolutely loved this one. A smart script that works better than the original's, spectacular animation, world-design, and action, and a super fun Mulder/Scully esque dynamic between the two leads.

Played through a chunk of DISPATCH, and wow - already safe to say it's one of the best narrative-based games in a long time. The animation and voice acting (Aaron Paul kills it) are top-notch. And the writing (congrats @pollyrag.bsky.social!) is seriously great - an amazing superhero deconstruction.

Wow - IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU is intense. It's dark and gripping and nightmarish and it's one of the most "I think this might actually be a horror movie?" non-horror movies in a long time. Rose Byrne delivers an incredible, award-worthy lead performance here, too. Plus: Conan O'Brien doing drama!

Did an Oscar contenders double feature tonight of RENTAL FAMILY and SENTIMENTAL VALUE. Really enjoyed both, and both films had an unexpected connective tissue, as both dealt with the idea of artifice vs. genuine human connection and honesty. A lot to unpack from both movies.

Caught up on ROOFMAN. It's anchored by a real movie star performance from Channing Tatum and a really excellent performance from Kirsten Dunst as well. It's an interesting film in that it's got a pretty fun, frothy, rom-com vibe at times - but also has some pretty dark edges. Enjoyed a lot overall.

After Episode 4 of PLURIBUS I’m starting to wonder if S1 is simply prelude to a very different series that will follow in subsequent seasons. It feels like at some point another shoe is going to drop (as was teased here) … and all hell is going to break loose.

This is some crazy thunder in LA right now …

In one week, Trump has publicly supported the murder of journalists and the murder of members of Congress. Psychotic and evil. Trump obviously has no problem with murdering people he doesn't like ... maybe that should be looked into?

This Toni Storm / Mina remixed theme and entrance is awesome. #AEWDynamite

Trump defends the murder of journalists because he wants to be able to do the same.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Okay, Avatar: Fire and Ash - is there any info about which theater showings will have high or mixed frame rate vs which will have “normal” frame rate? I’d love to see it in IMAX or Dolby, but the mixed frame rate in my showing of the second movie drove me crazy. Want to avoid for this one!

He’s truly a horrible person on every conceivable level.
When asked if there was anything "incriminating" in Epstein's emails, Trump pointed a finger in a female reporter's face and snapped. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.'

Episode 3 of PLURIBUS was real tonic for physical media collectors / appreciators ...

Michael Cera showing up midway through THE RUNNING MAN might be the most that I've seen one actor/performance totally reinvigorate a movie in a long time. From that point on, I was back onboard with the film.

We were supposed to see Moulin Rouge in 2020 in LA (pandemic), 2022 in NYC (got COVID), and 2023 in LA (early stages of Long COVID). Now, finally, seeing this show after five years!
