Nothing gives you more confidence about Australia’s counter-terror laws than the fact an attack becomes designated “terrorism” following days of political debate, and is designated by politicians responding to media queries, as opposed to any actual security analysis.

Ask most Australians who they think is responsible for the most heinous immigration laws and they will probably pick the Coalition. In reality Labor introduced mandatory detention, offshore processing, “no boat arrival will ever settle here” and these terrible new deportation laws. Bipartisan evil.
