I'm very close to coming to the conclusion that even post prime Junkyard Dog was a perfectly competent pro wrestler and the newsletter types just hated that he wasn't doing HOT MOVES.
His footwork, positioning, and timing were very good. His strikes still looked good. He was totally fine in there.

You really can't find more of a 'forgotten bit player' in pro wrestling than GWF Commissioner Lawton Randolph but I really wish he had been around longer. Something about the way he talks makes him a perfect Texas rasslin authority figure.

Three things here can be true; Hangman's reign, for the length it got, was great. Really great event. In a vacuum, it was probably too soon to take the title off him. And putting the title on Joe opens up more options for potential challengers than Hangman would've had right now.

In all seriousness, I didn't expect Hangman to lose and he absolutely could've had a longer title reign. The idea that this is AEW/Tony Khan fucking him over though is the kind of thinking that has me worrying Hangman fans are quickly approaching Naito fandom levels from a few years ago.
