One of my mum’s friends used to have those. I haven’t had either for years. I used to love a Garibaldi.
I remember liking the crunch of the icing when I was really little but they were the kind of thing my mum wouldn’t buy with any regularity. It was mostly Digestives, Rich Teas, and Shortcake in our house.

Anyway. Thanks for all the responses. It’s been informative.
I talked to a student who studied plant mycorrhizal interactions and she wasn’t aware of any mutualistic/parasitic interactions between plants and fungi but pointed out they don’t have true roots and so it wasn’t her area. Interesting to consider that they might be more than saprophytes.

Thanks. Not the same things but a few years ago I spotted these tiny mushrooms growing on a patch of moss on a wall on Earlham Rd in Norwich.
Great photo. How old do the cones have to be? Are they infected while still on the tree or colonised on the forest floor after a year or so?
