Contradictions abound in the life and times of Pete Hegseth, writes @lylerubin.bsky.social. His harangue at Quantico focused on fat troops and fat leaders, and he waxed romantic about accountability, merit, and high standards—then he introduced Donald Trump.

Ezra Klein Just Showed Us Everything Wrong With Secularized Meditation
There’s a moment in Ezra Klein’s recent interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates that’s been bugging me.

29 September 1930 | A Belgian Jewish girl, Hilda Weinberger, was born in Antwerp.

She was deported to #Auschwitz from Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen in October 1942. She was murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.

Taken just a few minutes ago outside the ICE facility in Portland that Trump claims is under siege. My message to Donald Trump is this: we don’t need you here. Stay the hell out of our city.

Portland burned down ages ago. Portland never burned down. Portland never existed. Portland has always existed. Portland is everywhere and nowhere. Portland is the affirmation and negation of all things. A contradiction harmonized in the transcendent fire of the divine gnosis. And also teriyaki.

"Who would have predicted this?"

- Black women did.
- Trans people did.
- The *entire* disability community did.
- The anarchists did.
- Post-Evangelicals did.

"Well why didn't I hear them."

You did. But you disregarded us as "extremists" and "alarmists". And you are still calling us that.

If they had the capacity to do this, it would be really bad. And they probably will try to do a couple of high profile examples to make you think they *do* have the capacity. But like a lot of stuff, this is a memo designed to get you to voluntarily stop doing stuff they don’t like.

The left is giving trans people big "I really like you, I just don't want to be seen together in public" energy.
...and then they came for the H1B visa-holders.

How much longer does the poem need to get before people figure it out?

The one good thing about this “run America like a business” nightmare is that more people are beginning to realize how corrupt and craven many businesses truly are.

Take notes.

Never forget how they abandoned us.

Don’t forgive their complicity.

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

A trans woman was murdered by a man who kept taunting her for not being a woman.

This is exactly the kind of hate that has been incited by Matt Walsh, JK Rowling, and Chaya Raichik.

They got exactly what they wanted, a dead trans person killed because of hate.

Faced off against a nihilistic, endlessly cruel manifestation of conservatism and somehow managed to make it close”

This here is why I made a crude, offensive drawing of Charlie Kirk and openly celebrated his death in an essay.

We're well past the time where mere statements supporting free speech can do anything. We need to be willing to engage in the banned speech, loudly and unapologetically.
