And they are done. Ministers are told to go off and draft reasons for the Lords explaining their disagreement to some of their amendments. Next stop the House of Lords
daznewman.bsky.social
Now we come to the crux of matters- the employment of children on heritage railways
daznewman.bsky.social
Government experiencing no difficulty in throwing out Lords amendments that were put forward by the Opposition. But it’s all very time consuming. Silly that they can’t vote by pressing a button. They could all be home by now.

Asked about timetable for NDAs SoS says roadmap ‘stands as is’ All very well but the roadmap was published before the NDA ban was in the Bill so we still don’t know when it will come in
daznewman.bsky.social
Peter Kyle claiming that the Bill only relates to exploitative zero hours contracts. Hmmm
daznewman.bsky.social
Looks like the Government is making one concession over the employment rights bill - offering a review of time off for public duties and the duties of special constables
daznewman.bsky.social
As I suspected, the Commons debating Lords amendment to the Employment Rights Bill is kicking off over employing children on heritage railways

I don’t know whether Ambassadors are technically employees or not. But of course in Mandleson’s case it doesn’t matter because he doesn’t have two years’ service!

And I wouldn’t bet on the guaranteed hours provisions being implemented before the next election.

Astonishing to get rid of the minister most closely involved in the Bill at this stage in its passage. I’m open to all sorts of theories about what might be going on
daznewman.bsky.social
I agree the Bill itself should get through. But I would certainly question the commitment to actually implementing it. There is a lot of consulting to do and a lot of key decisions to make. A less than committed Minister could slow things down a lot.

Just seen that Justin Madders has gone. Now have absolutely no idea what is going to happen to the Employment Rights Bill.
daznewman.bsky.social
Yes - Employment Rights Bill due to start ping pong next week. And there are a bunch of consultations due by the end of the year.
daznewman.bsky.social
So we have a new cabinet minister responsible for the Employment Rights Bill?
samfr.bsky.social
Kyle is going to Business. Replacing Jonny Reynolds.

Incredibly Lisa Nandy is staying at DCMS - she was the one person everyone thought would be moved.

Slightly surprised to find that I have very little idea of who is actually in the cabinet. I used to be such a nerd about this sort of thing.
daznewman.bsky.social
But surely not acceptance of amendments. Allowing the HoL opposition amendments would just demonstrate weakness
daznewman.bsky.social
I think the fact that she will I longer have influence over the various decisions that need to be made following consultation could be significant. Will the Initial period of employment still be nine months?
daznewman.bsky.social
I know it’s a small thing in the overall picture but if Angela Rayner is forced out that might make a big difference to the implementation of the Employment Rights Bill.
daznewman.bsky.social
Well I am assuming that the deleted clause relating to the Trade union political fund will be reinserted by the Commons. So we may as well have kept it in there.
daznewman.bsky.social
Yes. I was trying to pick up clues about timing and ping-pong but didn’t get much.
daznewman.bsky.social
Employment Rights Bill has been passed by the House of Lords. It now goes back to the Commons to consider the amendments that have been made.
daznewman.bsky.social
He finishes by urging the government to keep the extension of the right to be accompanied to cover non-union representatives

Now sticking it to the TUC’s approach to Latin America
