My goal for this year is to get back into looking for a tech job after a much too long hiatus.

I realize it’s not a good time for this, but I also realize there isn’t going to be a good time anytime soon. You’ve just got to work with what you have.

#Arduíno #cnc pen plotter working*

Made of PVC water pipes, a servo and two stepper motors.

Still a lot of jiggle since the pipes have some gaps. But it was a fun project!

This morning’s code: fiddle string handling. It’s a fine line between not putting enough new lines in, and putting in too many

The penplotter has been running all day making postcards. It’s such a lovely sound

USB-C is cool. But I barely own anything with a port for it, and I barely own any cables for it, so it’s still pretty inconvenient

Maybe it's just a sign that I don't study other languages enough, but I still get whiplash whenever I see an entire English phrase in a text in another language.

I am still haunted by reading something in my old German classes and suddenly coming across the phrase: "Sie ist ein Marketing Managerin"

It’s a bit of a meme, but I really do like my old #thinkpad. They’re the 25 year old Honda Civic of laptops

we’re in the vet’s office waiting room and they just called for Agamemnon. we all looked at the Great Dane but it turns out Agamemnon is an orange kitten in a backpack that makes him look like an astronaut cheese puff

What do you mean Unicode doesn’t have a superscript asterisk!?

I’m working on a simple tool for myself this afternoon. Even for tiny projects like this, much, much more of the work is in deciding what EXACTLY it should do than in writing the code to do it.

For all that #vim can do, I think the . command is one of it's most valuable features.

I wrote about the postcard I designed for the 2025 plotter postcard exchange #ptpx on my blog, based on a potato-based game that M.C. Escher used to play with his kids.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book by @windell-oskay.bsky.social and @tubetime.bsky.social (with @righto.com).

Cool to see the insides of so many electronics, especially some of the older stuff (Dubiler cap!). And the section on how they did it was also cool.

Would love to illustrate some of these! 😉
