Additionally, management struck out:
1️⃣ Language that would prevent GAI from producing editorial work
2️⃣ A requirement that AI-generated content be clearly labeled and reviewed by human editors

It's simple — @propublica.org workers should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our contract proposal specifically says that generative artificial intelligence ("GAI") should not be used to replace employees. Management struck out this entire section in their response to our proposal.

There’s this super light RSS reader: github.com/collie-reade... by @parksb.bsky.social

As of a few weeks ago it now comes with a tiny server for self-hosting.

If someone adds login-with-atproto to this and puts it up as a service, I’m bailing on Inoreader and will pay $50/yr in a heartbeat.

the line between who is "abled" and who is "disabled" is less about how people are born, but largely design decisions.

poverty is often painted as a result of bad choices, but they rarely mean the cultural or financial choices of us all.
"Disabled people are more than twice as likely to live in poverty than nondisabled people, and the disparities widen further for disabled people of color. The subminimum wage has contributed to that problem by keeping many workers in poverty."
A proposed rule would raise wages for disabled workers, @byashpeterson.bsky.social reports. Advocates urge the public to comment by Jan. 17 on a DoL proposal that would put an end to allowing employers to pay disabled workers less than minimum wage.

One of the biggest impacts I’ve seen from the unproven idea that people are wrongfully using disability accommodations is that people stop trusting people with disabilities and in fact further restrict, remove, and demonize accommodations for people with disabilities in general

my favorite dusty book stores are quickly disappearing, but thankful for the ones that remain.

if anyone finds themselves in southeastern Pennsylvania, this place is a treasure. I wish this was my house.

Even in winter, the wood whispers to tramp its paths. Its Sprites and Woodwose may sleep through days demanding our heaviest coats, but its mysteries do not. Bare branches scratch the low sky and still its mysteries sing. We walk for wonder. We walk for cold magics. – #EmilyCBanting, 1981

timely distinction between the blandness of algorithmic simulacrum and the authenticity of drawing.

drawing is seeing, is how I was taught design. machines can never see, they only record.
the Authenticity part could be describing J Dilla's unquantized style of sampling
