Amateur family historian and the many roles of women in WW1 in the UK. Love cats, churchcrawling, photography, nature and.Europa League winning Spurs!
delighted to have been gifted the Victory medal of Clarissa Bedwell who was a member of the Queen Alexandra (QAIMNS). I found her nursing career lasted far longer than the years of the conflict-44 years in fact!

I do love these 1940/50 cartoons!
"No proper Englishman would jump a queue" (ladies first? 😝)
"English cats were a revelation"
"Too much salesmanship doesn't go down too well I this country " note the canons!

I’ve just come across this register of inmates at Pentonville. Does anyone have a clue why they are all posed with their hands like this? I’m perplexed!

Brass memorial to Capt John Geldard RMLI who died in 1918. The tablet says he died on active service. His place of death was not a battlefield though or overseas but in a London hotel. He was 33
He was in the service from at least 1911. I took this in a small church in Rathmell.

My dad used to buy me a premium bond every birthday until I married in 1972. I was 12 when he gave me this. My name is written top left because I’m a twin and we got one each! I’d never get rid of this link to my dad.

I did actually win £50 in 1969! A lot of money then.

I love that you can go into any church in the UK and find wonderful things! Doesn’t need to be a cathedral!

They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.
Hundreds of people spelled out the distress signal "SOS" on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis on Friday, Jan. 30.

Day 31: A song that feels like a long journey

Along time ago came a man on a track
Walking thirty miles with a sack on his back

A long song, musically representing a long journey

And it is not right that people who don't go to university are having to bear all the cost for others to do so." #Reeves. A labour chancellor. I left school at 16 in 1969 and my taxes paid to educate working class doctors, scientists, teachers and other students I’ve never begrudged that.
