Amateur family historian and the many roles of women in WW1 in the UK. Love cats, churchcrawling, photography, nature and.Europa League winning Spurs!
When you find the grave locally of a decorated nurse from #WW1, decide to research it and find 3 nurses and 2 surgeon siblings , their mother who was a barmaid and a grandson son who was awarded the VC and died aged 22. That wasn’t on my bingo card! A blog it is then! #familyhistory more below 👇

It’s hard to make the words out but it’s a memorial to a doctor who left money to the church
It’s a quote about the Good Samaritan I think.

Made by Wordsworth’s sister Dorothy and Dora his daughter. In about 1810 Don't they look modern? Colours still great.
From a trip to Dove Cottage. I was on my own there The guide said hardly anyone visits any more! Presume the Wordsworths are out of fashion 😮

My attendance record in the European Parliament was the 4th worst out of 751 MEPs, yet I managed to turn up to vote AGAINST plans to tackle Russian misinformation.
Thankfully this is of no interest to the media.

Nice one! Role reversal in WW2?

A very interesting, infuriating, education archive.
“Apparently” quite a lot of the fabric of buildings can be made as part of lessons including furnishings by the “little mothers” in the secondary schools

Notwithstanding the rightly outdated "Empire" slant, what a gorgeous image! National archives c1930.

St Oswald church. Beautiful. The carving of the Virgin Mary was lovely - just placed on a window sill

I’m researching a headstone from my local church which from what looked like a fairly straightforward family has turned out to be fascinating ( more to follow!)
Had to share this though.
Under occupation in the 1939 reg one of the sisters has written
“Old age”
I know how she felt 😜

I’ve just found this #postcard in my mum in law’s things. This photo of the Aquitaina was taken in Liverpool May 1914 the ship was awaiting her maiden voyage. A few months later in #WW1 it was converted to a troop & hospital ship #sailawaysunday
