I wonder if this was the service used by my husband’s grandmother to have a photo taken of her brother, Tom’s grave. He died at Gallipoli

Something I’d never heard of, paying for a wreath to be lain.

One of these didn’t die for his country. One of these doesn’t deserve to wear medals. One of these didn’t leave loved ones and sons behind when dying for his country. One of these was given £12m by the monarchy
Which one?

For a different #wallsonwednesday

The story of brick beach on Merseyside. Rubble from the blitz was dumped here and the remnants of 1000s of walls, buildings and even a gravestone! It’s a fascinating place

I saw this in the Lancaster museum. A beautiful memorial.

In the main entrance hall at the Royal Albert Hospital, Lancaster was a framed Roll of Honour. This remembers staff and residents of the institution who joined up to take part in #WW1

It’s international Day of Women and Girls in Science
So let’s not forget some pioneers!
Ruth Pirret worked in the field of radioactivity and the first woman to graduate from the Uni of Glasgow with a BSc.
During #WW1 she researched corrosion of boilers in marine engines for the British Admiralty.

This is a #postcard my grandad Tom gave to my dad "For Jack". Tom was in the Marines in Chatham. I wonder if he gave this to dad before he went to war in August 1914.Dad was 6 and never saw him again. It really moves me. Dad lived to be 95 and this was in his things when he died #WW1 #FamilyHistory

I have this book

A tad gender specific, no? 1964. I left school 5 years later. This is the world I was educated into! I mean, even then, why couldn’t a woman be a musician, a teacher or an artist? Weird! Love these old books though!

The Fine perpendicular Tower is by far the oldest part of the church and dates from Norman times of the early 14th century.
