That's actually false - have you looked at affirmative action statistics ie test scores by ethnicity at medical schools or top schools? Affirmative action is about hiring more of a certain ethnicity than would normally get hired on a purely merit-based system. The idea is to start a virtuous cycle..

5,290 papers at #NeurIPS this year, out of ~23,000 submissions.

5,290 papers will be published at NeurIPS this year. If you could still get the proceedings in a book, it would be like 50,000 pages long. That’s 14.5 papers a day to read each and every day until the next NeurIPS

Trump is starting to ramp up an unprecedented assault on the First Amendment. Everyone should be paying attention to what's happening right now, and be ready to speak up for your rights!

An absurdly comprehensive treatment of the (relatively negligible) effects AI has on the environment.

I took a moment to organize everything I've written about AI and the environment into a single clear landing page: andymasley.substack.com/p/ai-and-the...

I am having a hard time reconciling "Charlie Kirk was a fierce advocate of open dialogue and free expression" with "we must identify and persecute everyone who is insufficiently mournful"
After Charlie Kirk's death, teachers and professors nationwide fired or disciplined over social media posts
At least a dozen faculty and staff have faced fallout over insensitive comments online.

Did it occur to you that maybe she wants him to find Christ and then get executed?

What’s a good book to read on fascism?

your apology is NOT accepted. Yelling "hate speech" in response to everything is why the Democrat party is in such a mess right now.

Interesting. Lehman’s deportation abundance” thing I do find offputting, although it does seem that deporting criminal aliens is much harder than it should be. It appears Lehman generally supports more policing, which is something I can get behind: marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevo...
Still under-policed and over-imprisoned - Marginal REVOLUTION
A new paper, The Injustice of Under-Policing, makes a point that I have been emphasizing for many years, namely, relative to other developed countries the United States is under-policed and over-impri...

I see Charles Lehman from the Manhattan Institute was a speaker at the recent "Abundance 2025" conference. I don't know much about him. I personally don't judge people based solely on affiliation or judge entire movements over one speaker invite but that's just me.

"abundance, specifically, seems to be giving a bunch of people cover to roll over" - say more?
delton.bsky.social
Meaning not a Democrat party thing? I guess not really, but the abundance movement has aspirations to be a source of policy ideas on the Democrat side.

I wasn't aware that YIMBY was a "Democrat" thing - a lot of YIMBYs I know are otherwise not very political or are Republicans or libertarian.
