The 36 year old (a Macaw) has a general life expectancy of anywhere from 45-60ish, though I know one who is 75 and in great health & activity level. The 39 year old (an Amazon) has an exceptionally long life span - 60-100 (or older) though reaching 100 is still not common.

Yes, two parrots - one who is 36 years old and another who is 39 - are my exceptional friends and companions.

Oh, Moluccan Cockatoos are wonderful dancers, dramatic as they can possibly be and FULL of bold moves! 😍🤣

A friend on Facebook passed along this screenshot of data confirmation, along with some valuable, timely advice about turning off or dimming lights.

I’ll bet the pets were a wonderful distraction in math class. 😂

Hi Shore Bird! What a great story to share with us, thanks!

I hope all is well with you too.
All is well with me.

I hope the incoming stormy weather doesn’t play rough with you & your home. I hope it’ll be kind to Plum Island too!

😂 Well why not? They don’t have any dollars to worry about 😉

There are so many variables that impact migration patterns. A variety of data, noting diverse factors, will be compiled going forward. Separately, when we have the field data about each species population numbers within their range that will be a key finding. Your question’s answer is complex.

That’s a great question, Scott. Right now I think the only reliable way to look at these blockbuster migration numbers - notably 3 record breaking nights on 3 nights since 9/29 - is at face value.

I live in Berkshire County, MA, a comparatively small county in one of the smallest US states.

BirdCast tracked 6,816,400 birds migrating through MY small county last night!

Now look at this image showing a record-breaking 1.25 BILLION birds migrating in the US last night - incredible!

On the night of October 8, 2025 a mind-blowing, record-breaking number of birds were in flight -
1.25 BILLION!

It’s pretty mind-blowing, isn’t it, Jen.

Every human should reflect on the repeatedly demonstrated fact that parrots living with or in proximity to humans can & do choose to learn to use human language - in context - to successfully communicate with humans.
But humans are only beginning to sort out any understanding of parrot language.

Thanks for those insights. Your perspective mirrors my point of view too. Having worked with & lived with parrots (5 in my flock & at least several hundred through my work) they have been the best teachers I could have to teach me about parrot consciousness & their vast communication skills.

You’re most welcome, Scott, and thanks so much for your kind words.
I enjoy being back here on a regular basis again. 😎

I thoroughly agree, GP.
I appreciate the reasons & purposes for scientific methodology, but many aspects of non-human beings’ behaviors and motives truly seem so clear and ultimately straightforward. If we pay close attention & consciously suspend our disbelief, things are understood differently.

You’re most welcome, Jen.
I was so tempted to mention Dr Goodall within a comment introducing this research topic, but I truly wanted to respect and focus on Elodie Freymann’s singular research, as is showcased in this article.

I miss Jane Goodall too, very much.
