The architect, Ulf Mejergren, said that his favorite detail was probably the unexpected gaps between the snowballs that was caused by daytime melting. In the evening it then froze again and made the snowballs merge together in a nice way.

This hut was inspired by traditional Scandinavian snow lanterns called Snölykta. The hut is made of 5000 snowballs. It’s much larger than a typical Snölykta because it’s to be a shelter that could be entered - where people put candles, giving the surroundings a nice glow when the interior is lit up.

During the long, dark Scandinavian winters light is treasured, whether in the brief appearance of sunlight or the steady light of lanterns, lamps and candles. Throughout many generations, residents of Sweden have followed the tradition of building snow lanterns, called Snölykta.
