Day 2 of kinship workshop, we moved into richer terrain with two-sex, time-varying models and spent time unpacking a powerful idea : kin loss and bereavement

One striking insight: in India, an individual aged 100 in 2020 would have experienced the loss of nearly 45 kin over their lifetime!

Average mortality rates are a horrible measure of typical mortality during the first weeks of life. On the day of birth modal mortality is 189 times lower than average mortality. Read more in my recent piece on selection in neonatal mortality.
