Please read my dear and brilliant friend Sandra's new story, "Sadness of Gaza."

Sandra has endured more horror in the past week than most of us will in our entire lives. Even $5 can bring some much needed light into her life: her fundraising link is in my bio 🙏 #Sacramento #Sac4Sandra #Poem (1/2)
Sadness of Gaza
by Samar Adnan Muhammed Kamil

Note for screen readers: Pages 1 through 4 contain the English translation of this story. Pages 5 and 6 (in the next tweet) are the original Arabic version.

In Gaza, a girl sits crying on a broken road.

Is she myself or my double?

She stares ahead blankly at rooms without ceilings or walls, theaters empty of meaning but heavy with loss.

She was left all alone for unscrupulous scavengers. She weeps quietly. At intervals she howls in pain, grief, or need. None offer solace or claim her as kin.

She sees me and beckons. With labored breath, she begs me to find her mother, father, and brothers. Her memory doesn't disclose where they went.

The road lies between tangles of thorns. A wall looms above it. Outside of the wall, monsters rule the land, sea, and sky. PAGE 2 of 6

She walks north on the road until the world spins around her. Her soul petitions for release but she rejects it. Nearby, a blind old woman trembles in wordless fear.

Pan-Arabism is a myth, the girl thinks. It died long ago with the dream of an Ummah. We propped up its corpse with irrational hope.

A murmur from the west brings memories of freedom: fresh air, shining waves, and soft golden sands. Perhaps the sea holds the key to restoring the past.

She runs there and cries, "Please deliver my people," but the sea cuts her short: "Did you not hear me rage and sigh? I'm trapped here like you are. You're on your own, precious girl."

She runs to the south and arrives at iron gates. PAGE 3 of 6

Others precede her: a new amputee, an unemployed worker, a woman sick with tuberculosis, a young man of faith, a medical student whose studies were interrupted, a young girl who dreams of sunrise.

She goes to the front. Troops block the exit. They are devoid of all mercy. They view her with contempt and disgust.

The girl's heart wildly seizes and pounds. Shame blurs her vision. Her soul cries in anguish:

"O Silent Ones who forget our grandfathers were brothers; who forget we descend from one mother and father; who left us helpless and bleeding behind you;

"O Silent Ones who used to join in songs of pan-Arabism and unity and homeland;

"We used to be family, convened by sacred command, your hands joined with ours until death, our tears intermingled as one. PAGE 4 of 6

"We were a pride of lions, fighters defending one people, delegations assembled in common cause. You forget the strength that we had, the beauty our martyrs bequeathed us.

"O Silent Ones, you lock us away with no food, water, or medicine. Divided, our blood thins to nothing.

"Your pity demeans us. Your pieties wound us. Your public pronouncements are bullets, pretty diamonds shot into our back.

"You are the ones who broke your pledge. You are the ones who forgot our bond.

"You are my brothers. You are my family. And you forgot Gaza at the Rafah Crossing."

Over 1000 likes and still being ignored by @jay.bsky.team
This speaks loudly about how much respect trans people get on here.

i think it is fair to request a statement from @jay.bsky.team on TRANS PEOPLE and where we fit in on @bsky.app.

i think as a transgender journalist, it's acceptable and makes sense for me to ask this

and so, the question, am i not a person as a trans girl and do i not deserve to feel safe here?

You know what?

When the United States actually takes care of a of the people within its borders, I'll consider being respectful or grateful to this country. But for now, what I see is a country founded on multiple genocides doing its level best to either deny those genocides ever happened,
devingtieme.bsky.social
You do not have to hand it to Republicans
devingtieme.bsky.social
I mean the app the democrats voted to ban because it contained too much accurate information about the genocide they were committing

we didn’t cause Nazism. whatever caused incumbents to tank in 2024, it wasn’t unique to us. we aren’t uniquely corrupt, or violent, or authoritarian. there are good things and bad things about our country like any other, and Americans work a lot like people anywhere
devingtieme.bsky.social
We fight white supremacist institutions, we don’t celebrate and praise them
devingtieme.bsky.social
You have contempt for U.S. history as told by anyone but the ruling class
devingtieme.bsky.social
In the U.S., incumbents tanked because they committed genocide
devingtieme.bsky.social
Easy for a genocide denier to say
devingtieme.bsky.social
The U.S. has 20% of the world’s prisoners and only 5% of the world population
devingtieme.bsky.social
And yes, there is often a little overlap between CIA and USAID. Not sure if you remember ZunZuneo
devingtieme.bsky.social
I live in the world where the U.S. has been complicit in 3 genocides in the past 10 years
devingtieme.bsky.social
Would you love to live in Jim Crow Mississippi as a Black person
devingtieme.bsky.social
You live in a fantasy world
devingtieme.bsky.social
Are you familiar with how the U.S. has exercised its veto
devingtieme.bsky.social
It is truly disgusting to handwave the mass death the U.S. caused in Korea, Vietnam, East Timor, Cambodia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Cuba, Iran, Chile, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, Palestine. You should be ashamed. Nazi mentality
devingtieme.bsky.social
Japan basically surrendered before the U.S. nuclear bombed them. Stop believing fucking fairy tales
devingtieme.bsky.social
The U.S. has been directly complicit in at least 3 genocides in the past 10 years: Palestine, Sudan, Yemen
devingtieme.bsky.social
The U.S. put Japanese-Americans in internment camps and dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Soviets were primarily responsible for defeating the Nazis
