In Chicago Tribune editorial: "This is an inevitable consequence of both political parties, fearful of their extremes, punting for years on an immigration policy."
Not in the editorial: Trump ordered Republicans to kill a bipartisan immigration bill in 2024 so he could use the issue to get elected.
From the Editorial Board: We watched what happened when Laquan McDonald was murdered by a police officer in Chicago in 2014. This felt to us like we were watching it all over again, just a few hundred miles to our north.
Editorial: Trump’s Minneapolis misadventure turns deadly for a second time

MAGA politics is an ongoing triangulation between what crooks and bigots want and what the rest of us will tolerate. That's why you're seeing such a desperate pivot after Trump's thugs executed a man on a Minneapolis street. The MAGA pols don't oppose it – they just know it looks bad.

Keep going, resisters. We’re going to win in the end.

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.
