Happy Monday, everyone. This is what I live for: snow!! We got quite a bit of it Saturday night and Sunday, and hopefully all of you are able to remain home and let the snowplows do their thing. I still have to work, so I as sip some coffee and dive into that among the backdrop of a winter wonderland, here's some news from the weekend:

It's the first U.S. Women's National Team match of 2026! As part of their January camp, the team will face Paraguay, just the third time historically these teams have played. Newly re-signed Washington Spirit player Trinity Rodman will captain the team for the first time in today's match. She's joined by a bevy of NWSL talent, including several of her own teammates: Tara Rudd (née McKeown), Kate Wiesner, Croix Bethune, and Hal Hershfelt.

Trinity Rodman is BACK (The District Press)Yesterday's Spirit mystery press conference was finally revealed to be the announcement of Trinity Rodman's new contract with the team.

Finally, the nightmare scenarios can end and we can reset the doomsday clock. The Washington Spirit have announced that Trinity Rodman has signed a new deal that will keep her at the club through the 2028 season. The announcement was held at BMO Stadium with Rodman coming down from USWNT camp in Carson, CA to attend the event. Washington blasted a 'special announcement' to media and fans, noting that club owner Michele Kang and new president of soccer operations Haley Carter would be speaking.

When we last saw the US Women’s National Team, they were ending 2025 with back-to-back clean sheet victories over FIFA’s #13 ranked women’s team, Italy. Now that the calendar has turned over to 2026, the USWNT will begin preparations for roughly a year and a half packed with competitive soccer. Between November 2026 and July 2028, the US will seek to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil through the 2026 CONCACAF W Championship, then hopefully competing the World Cup, before finally attempting to defend Olympic gold in front of the home crowd as part of the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

Happy Thursday everyone. As Talonesque mentioned yesterday, the Spirit have an announcement planned in Los Angeles for 6 PM ET. Whatever the announcement is, its a big enough deal that Michele Kang and Haley Carter will be there. Given the USWNT are training nearby in Carson, there is a lot of speculation on the internet that the Spirit have found a way resign Trinity Rodman and bring to an end the ongoing intrigue?
