Ward 4 Calgary City Councillor-type guy. Blue Jays fan.
I was pleased to attend the groundbreaking of the first ever hotel to be built on Stampede Park. As a board member for CMLC, I am excited to see how CMLC, the Calgary Stampede, Truman, and Marriott develop this new 320-key Autograph Collection hotel into a destination alongside the BMO Centre.

Cities across North America have been delivering reliable water service through water utilities, authorities and commissions, and we need a better governance model here at home.

'This is a staggering failure': Council members react to scathing independent feeder main report
Some Calgary city council members were very critical of past decisions after the release of a report into the 2024 Calgary water main break.

I ask the question of how serious should council be taking the third party review of Calgary's water system, and the independent panel agrees it's a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.

This is why we as a council can't pass the buck. We need to fix this for Calgarians.

There is a smarter way forward for the governance of Calgary’s water supply.

We will address this current water main break and those to come, but I believe it is also time to think about what the future looks like to avoid the missteps of the past.

See my plan at www.djkelly.ca/water.

Yesterday, Calgarians consumed 510 Megalitres of water, exceeding the sustainable limit of 485 Megalitres per day.

To prevent depleting reserves crucial for firefighting, cut shower times to under 3 minutes, flush toilets sparingly, and only run full loads of laundry and dishes.

Hey Neighbour!

It’s the first regular day back at City Hall for 2026, and the agenda is packed: save water to build reserves for firefighting, review the 2024 water‑crisis report, reply to messages from neighbours, plan council priorities for the next four years, and attend community meetings.

One eastbound lane of 16 Ave is now open,
The boil water advisory has ended, and
The broken pipe is out of the ground!

A good day, but we still need to continue conserving water, and get a new pipe segment installed, tested, etc.
Site Update. Jan. 4, 8 p.m.

👷‍♂️ Crews continue making steady progress at the break site along 16 Avenue N.W.

🏗️ Removed damaged pipe from the ground.

🚧 Opened one lane on eastbound 16th Avenue N.W.

Every drop counts, Calgary.💧

Please keep up the good work and continue to conservative as much water as you can to ensure our water reserves - especially next week when many return to work and school - remain in the green zone.
UPDATE #11 - 8am Jan 2, 2026. THANK-YOU, CALGARY! We stepped up to conserve water, and it made a real difference. We’re now back in the sustainable zone—but we’re not out of the woods yet. Please keep conserving as crews continue their work. Latest details are here: www.calgary.ca/emergencies/...

Hey Neighbour!

Take a tour with me of where the breaks on the Bearspaw Water Main have occurred and what work has done to repair the pipe over the past two years as I give up an update on what is being done to fix the current water crisis.

Happy New Year, Calgary!

Ironically, the park next to the Emergency Operations Centre provided an excellent view of the fireworks last night.

We rang in the New Year by successfully helping someone reunite with their runaway dog.

Here's to a successful 2026 for you and yours!

Over the next 24 hours the City of Calgary will continue the work towards draining the Bearspaw Feeder Main so that excavation work can be undertaken to remove the section that broke on Dec. 30. That section will be taken for investigation, but there is no definitive timeline.
December 31, 2025 at 10:30 PM
Calgary City Council is unified in providing direction and receiving updates about the Bearspaw Feeder Main break. Council received a briefing at the Emergency Operations Centre this morning, where we learnt about the steps being taken over the next 24 hours by City staff.

Alberta Health Services has declared a Boil Water Advisory for portions of Parkdale, Montgomery and Point McKay communities, in Ward 7.

For neighbours in Ward 4 and across Calgary, we need everyone to voluntarily take simple but impactful steps to reduce water use: 1/2
We're responding to a water main break east of the Sarcee Trail/16 Ave N.W. interchange.

‼️There is a boil water advisory for the communities of Parkdale, Montgomery and Point McKay.

All Calgarians should conserve water. Stay tuned for more updates.

Tonight I and other council members became aware via social media and media reporting that a water main break had occurred in northwest Calgary not far from where the Bearspaw Feeder Main break occurred last year. Currently we await more information and the next steps taken to address this issue.

Hey Neighbours!

I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas and happy holidays. I hope that it is a wonderful break for you that is shared with community, family, and friends.

Partnerships have become something that differentiates this council. I was happy to attend the @BILDCR holiday party with my council colleagues Kim Tyers and Mike Jamieson in that sprit.

Finding longterm sensible solutions to put neighbours into Ward 4 homes begins with these conversations.

I was pleased to attend Calgary Police Service recruit class 265 this afternoon. These men, women, and even new canine officers all chose public service to make Calgarians safer, and I applaud them for that choice.

I am shocked by today’s police-involved shooting on the Dalhousie LRT footbridge. Grateful no officers or public were hurt and the individual survived. ASIRT is investigating. Thank you to Calgary Police and Peace Officers for keeping Calgarians safe.

I was happy to join Mayor Jeromy Farkas last night in the decades long tradition of lighting the menorah at Calgary City Hall.

The number one thing I heard at the doors during the campaign was repeal citywide rezoning and today I supported doing that with my vote.

The hard work to build better will come in March during the public hearing process and I encourage Calgarians to reach out with their ideas.

Tonight, I plan to attend the annual Menorah lighting at City Hall, as I have before, where we will mourn the Sydney terrorist attack victims and remember the miracle of bringing light to the darkest of times.
December 15, 2025 at 9:05 PM
I was thrilled to attend the annual Santa Claus parade in Huntington Hills tonight to share the spirit of Christmas during the countdown to Dec. 25.

The evening was made complete with Santa giving out toys to all of the children at the parade. A perfect example of the generosity of Calgarians.

Hey, Neighbour!

Over the past few weeks my Ward 4 team has been answering a lot of emails about topics ranging from snow removal to rezoning.

If you live in Ward 4, I want to hear from you. Email the Ward 4 office, or submit your ideas or concerns to me directly at djkelly.ca.

Partnerships are at the heart of my work for the neighbours of Ward 4. I was pleased to meet with Contemporary Calgary on Thursday to learn about their plans to transform into a vibrant hub for arts, culture, and community
